As we ring in the new year and toast to all the excitement, splendid couples, beautiful weddings, wonderful venues, amazing colleagues and all that 2012 has in store for us, we also take a few moments to honor an incredible 2011.

We were pushed and challenged to expand our creativity, to explore and design in new locations, and to set the bar that much higher and then some. We, along with our clients, braved snow (at the beginning of the season and the end!), torrential rains, extreme heat, a hurricane, some of the most glorious of weather days and more. We grew our team, yet again and broadened our talented network of vendors and colleagues, allowing our clients fetes to be that much more fabulous! And we met amazing couples, who welcomed us into their fold, gave us the opportunity to play such intimate roles in their lives - their wedding day, and who leave us with fond memories, in the same way we hoped we were able to do for them.

Connecticut Wedding Planner | Tori and Jack's Prep School Soiree

Tori and Jack’s wedding was a true expression of them as a couple. Victoria, an interior designer, was exceptionally inspired by a whimsical yet composed fresh and preppy spring garden feel. Jack, with his infectious grin and a background in the film industry, wanted to ensure friends and family who traveled far and wide for the couple’s wedding weekend had an amazing time. The couple's charming personalities were infused throughout all aspects of their wedding, beginning with their wedding invitations. A delicious accordion style letterpress invite featuring love birds captured their young at heart humor perfectly. The love bird theme was carried throughout their day of stationery, a sweet reflection of our couple's adoration for each other. Together with their families, they hosted an unforgettable June celebration at Avon Old Farms School for Boys in Avon, Connecticut that was full of thoughtful touches for their guests and downright fun!

The wedding party’s attire definitely set the stage for the affair. Tori wore a beyond gorgeous custom designed gown from Modern Trousseau; the marvelous ruffle detail was true work of art in and of itself. Bright Manolos added an unexpected splash of color and tied in with her ladies in flirty one shouldered navy and magenta dresses. Jack and his men donned J. Crew. Khaki suits and personalized Chuck Taylors. Their preppy accoutrements were complete with multi-striped ties and pocket square for Beau Ties.

One cannot set foot on the campus of Avon Old Farms School for Boys without gasping over the incredible stone and oak architecture modeled after English Cotswold and Tudor styles, which immediately conjures up visions a la Harry Potter. For Tori and Jack’s wedding it was our goal to brighten and lighten all spaces, yet still hold true to the remarkable back drop.

The ceremony took place at the chapel on campus, where our wonderful florist Jane of Just For You Floral Design Studio festively hung white pomanders by green ribbons from the support beams. Tori’s uncle performed the piano for the ceremony and she walked down the aisle to a song he composed just for her and that moment, this being the first time she heard it. It was a very warm day, but luckily the sweet ceremony program fans tied with bakers twine were not only adorable, but also helped keep everyone cool!

Following the ceremony, guests were guided across campus by old-school chalkboard signs to the lawn where cocktails were held. Croquet, custom initial bean bag tosses and lawn golf were set up for guests to enjoy themselves as they took in the incredible view and sipped on specialty drinks.

For the reception we transformed the dining hall into a dramatic garden party. Chalkboard escort cards with each guest’s name and table were strung up on the original cloak hooks in the dining room, making a grand statement to all entering. Utilizing the school’s original tables of extraordinary lengths, we layered them meticulously with crisp white linen, custom aloe runners Jack’s mother had made while on a visit to India, pebble green chargers, and a hemp napkin rolled with a jeweled accent. Varied height arrangements of hydrangea, rose, lisianthus and ranunculus provided interest to the table, and were a gorgeous contrast against the paneled walls, while the exposed green stems were another dash of green on our tables. Menus were hung from each chair, tied with the signature bakers twine. There were flickering candles in every possible place we could put them, and specialty lighting cast about the room a welcoming glow.

The fun evening was complete with an impressive play list by Jack, a photo booth, and lots of “dancing fuel” including a candy bar, passed cookies, popcorn machine and the biggest hit of them all, ice cream sandwiches in a vintage cooler. All in all, a wonderful day and fabulous party for our "love birds" Tori and Jack.

Connecticut Wedding Planner | Caity and Matt's Sperry Tented Wedding at Hill-Stead Museum

Caity and Matt . . sigh, where to begin?? I met Caity, Matt, and Caity’s parents on a cold and blustery day almost two years ago. The whole gang glowed with ideas of a country chic wedding at a venue near and dear to their hearts – Hill-Stead Museum. Caity grew up in Farmington and attended Miss Porters School, so Hill-Stead with its incredible sense of history, magnificent artwork and proximity to their beautiful home was an obvious choice in which to hold the wedding reception. It was instant kismet and we were thrilled to bring their vision to life.

The morning of the wedding started a bit overcast, but the clouds broke to real the most amazing sun drenched day. Caity and her maids had their hair styled at a local salon and then returned to her childhood home to lunch, sip champagne and get dressed. Caity wore a breathtaking Angel Sanchez one shouldered dress with fabulous ruffle detail and hot pink satin Kate Spades. And while I'm not sure exactly if we sourced our inspiration from those shoes or vice versa, they were the just the perfect shade that was reflected throughout the flowers and other wedding decor. Her girls looked just lovely in their Jenny Yoo dresses and soft hair. The groom and his men readied at another historic home in Farmington, donning Zegna tuxes and vineyard vines bow ties expertly tied by the groom himself.

Upon time for the ceremony, Caity and her father were escorted up the street by an old fashioned horse drawn carriage to Saint Patrick’s Church. The ceremony music was just exquisite and all too soon the smiling newlyweds were whisked away in a Rolls convertible, while all the guests made their way up to Hill-Stead Museum! Cocktail hour took place in the sunken garden where guests took in the beautiful afternoon, explored the rolling hills of the venue and were treated to an open house at the Museum. They had a wonderful time mingling, enjoying the scrumptious bites of Emily’s Catering, playing croquet and snapping silly takes in the photo booth. A sun shower quickly escorted everyone into the reception tent, but luckily for us it passed quickly and did not dare damper spirits.

The Sperry Tent on the West Lawn was a bright and happy place and it was so exciting to see our inspiration all come together. Our country chic setting was established by long guest tables layered with oyster burlap runners and floral arrangements featuring the most vibrant shades of pink and tangerine in a vast array of fantastic trophy cups and other silver containers particularly sourced for this event. Delightful mismatched floral china and letterpessed menus were pleasing indeed and welcomed each guest to his or her seat. Toasts to the couple ensued, in particular, Caity’s maid of honor gave a heart wrenching account of their friendship since Miss Porters School. Everyone feasted on a delicious meal and wine paring, numerous desserts and had a marvelous time dancing the night away to Eight to the Bar under the canopy of Japanese lanterns. An after party took place at The Country Club of Farmington, but not before each guest departed with a Hill-Stead honey favor as a sweet farewell.
Caity and Matt, it was a remarkable experience getting to know you, your parents, family and friends. It was our honor to bring your wedding dreams to reality and a privilege for us personally to witness your day. We wish you the best of luck in your new life together in Boston and do hope you stay in touch in the years to come. We will remember you and your gorgeous wedding always!

Connecticut Wedding Planner | Hillary and Rory's Sperry Tented Private Estate Wedding

On a chilly night last winter, Hillary and her dad, Tom came to meet with us to discuss Hillary's dream of a wedding on the property of her parents' Bed and Breakfast in Suffield, Kingsfield Bed and Breakfast. With it's rolling hills, fountained ponds, history and charm, it was an incredible backdrop for Hillary's wedding to her prince charming, Rory.

Eileen Broderick Photography was on hand all day to capture Hillary and Rory's wedding and provided all of the images within this post.

On the morning of the wedding, Hillary and the ladies (and there were lots of lovely ladies) all readied at the Bed and Breakfast with the assistance of the girls from Dana Bartone Salon. Hillary wore an off white lace sheath gown and worked with her seamstress to add a pale peach rouched bustline and dramatic bowed back. The maids and usherettes wore dresses of their choice in three shades of blue from J. Crew. The guys also donned J.Crew, looking ever so dapper, in their striped blue ties.

The ceremony was held in an intimate grove of trees overlooking the setting sun and one of the propery's ponds. Ribbons of pale ivory, blush, and peach hung from the trees and blew in the gentle breeze. Millenniumm Music played, as guests were treated to lavender iced tea and fresh lemonade in their way to their seats. Guests fanned themselves in the August heat with two sided fan programs we created to tie in with the overall wedding decor. In keeping the ceremony personalized, one family friend married the couple and another sang. As the ceremony ended, a tease of fireworks filled the sky and Hillary and Rory exited followed by their bridal party.

Together, Hillary, Tom, Lindsay and I worked to design a French Country inspired wedding reception, beautiful and welcoming, unique in details and complimentary to property. Post ceremony, guests made their way to the stone walled garden area behind the Inn and were greeted by the delightful staff and incredible hors d'oeuvres display of Emily's Catering.

Under the soaring Sperry Tent, white lanterns hung, while we dressed the tables in Blue Etoile, Silver chargers, personalized menus in cornflower blue and lavendar and the florals, all provided by The Growth Company, were in ivory, green and blue, set in Vermont styled Ceramic Pots. We added gold toned framed table numbers. The table numbers matched in style to the "escort card wall" we created and hung gold frames from, directly guests to their tables.

Following dinner, Hillary and Rory cut their wedding cake, a surprise design from Hillary's dad Tom, provided by Classic Cakes. The momument on top is the Bunker Hill Monument in Boston, a location particularly special to Hillary and Rory. Just before the rain began to fall, we moved guests outside of the tent to watch the most incredible fireworks display, provided by Atlas Productions. Then, guests danced the night away to tunes played by The XRAYS, a Burlington, VT based band who also played at Hillary's brother's wedding.

Hillary, Rory, and Tom, thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to bring your vision to life on your gorgeous property. It was a spectacular day, filled with wonderful memories, and we were thrilled to be a part of it. Hillary and Rory, we wish you many years of love and happiness in marriage and hope that you always look fondly back upon your wedding day as the beginning of your lives together as one.

It is such a gorgeous location, the weather couldn't be more spectacular and the details are going to be divine. We have been working with Lila and Paul, a wonderful team of vendors to create their whimsical and eclectic French Hobo wedding and can not wait to see it all live and share in their incredible day.

Congratulations Lara and Robby

Today is Lara and Robby's wedding at Saltwater Farm Vineyard in Stonington. We first met last December the week before Christmas, and it was certain that love was in the air. They are sweet and kind and planning their wedding has been a joy with each of them. Lara and Robby, as well as all of their guests have travelled from out of state to celebrate their marriage. While this morning is a little dark and gray, the vineyard's Hanger space will be transformed into a warm and sophisticated setting, featuring peach, gold, and copper, combined with white and ivory florals.

Connecticut Wedding Planner | Amanda and Sasha's Sleek and Modern Saltwater Farm Vineyard Wedding!

Fashion forward, totally modern, and downright stylish, Amanda wed her laid back, witty and super handsome groom Sasha on one of the most incredibly beautiful May days. For nearly a year and a half, we worked with Amanda, in between her hectic business travel and intense MBA program, along with her absolutely adoring mother, Paulette to plan Amanda and Sasha's wedding at one of our favorite venues, Saltwater Farm Vineyard. After visiting some of the most stunning venues that Connecticut has to offer, Amanda fell in love with Saltwater as soon as she walked onto the property and knew that Sasha would just the same. With it's rustic, yet modern minimalist design, the incredible light which shines through the wall of windows, and the gorgeous grounds, there isn't anything not to love and we used the hanger as our backdrop to plan their navy and taupe wedding.

A special thank you to Jerome and Jen Braga of Studio 1923 who wowed us yet again with their extraordinary ability to capture all that is our clients, their personalities, and the unique aspects of their weddings which make them truly theirs. They did none other for Amanda and Sasha as well!

Amanda and the ladies readied in the loft space at Saltwater. Amanda slipped into her beauty of a Priscilla of Boston gown and the ladies wore striking short frocks in Navy. Sasha donned a navy suit and paisley patterned tie and the stood waiting to meet his blushing bride in between the vineyard vines. In keeping with the crisp and modern vibe, Amanda carried oversized callas - a classic and bold statement, and the ladies with bouquets of greens and viburnam.

Before the marriage ceremony in front of their family and friends, Amanda and Sasha gathered with their parents, bridal party, and Rabbi for the Ketubah signing in front of the Fireplace inside the hanger space. The ceremony within the vines was personal and emotional. Sasha wore his yarmulke from his childhood and the kiddish cups were ones from each Sasha's family and Amanda's as a gift on her Bat Mitzvah. The Chuppah was classically beautiful with white draping and large containers of bright green bamboo, greens, bells of Ireland all provided by Marcy and Thom at Dragonfly Event. Upon the conclusion of the ceremony, the newlyweds exited all smiles!

The Hanger space of the Vineyard was transformed into a neutral, yet sleek and modern vision with Fruitwood Chivari chairs, a drool-worth textured Stone Faille Linen, reminiscent of the stonework on the fireplace and main bar, and sky high calla lilies stretching into the open space thanks again to Dragonfly Event. We incorporated metal etched table numbers to balance the exposed metal and railings in the loft space and provided just a touch of whimsy with the wheat grass escort card display, with the cards sitting on Saltwater Farm Vineyard wine corks. As a tribute to Sasha's father, who has passed, and in honor of the couple's last name, Amanda and Sasha were given Blue Waterford Crystal Toasting Flutes, by Sasha's sister and they were used by the Newlyweds who toasted their guests and remembered Sasha's father.

Guests danced and danced, under the direction of Doug from Power Posse Productions, and then enjoyed a sweet delight of Gelato, on little wooden spoons, custom stamped with Amanda and Sasha's names.

Amanda and Sasha, we hope your wedding was all you dreamed it could be and more. Planning with you and your mom Paulette, was always fresh and fun - the balance between honoring tradition and pushing the unconventional brought our creativity and challenged us to be our best. We wish you all the best and many happy years together!

Connecticut Wedding Planner | Heidi and Al's Fluttery Blush Nuptials

This spring, I received an inquiry from the absolutely gorgeous, Heidi, who was referred by her photographer, a friend and past client of mine, Alissa Dinneen. Heidi and her fiance Al, had assembled a wonderful team of talented vendors, including their florist, Jessica's Country Flowers, and were looking for some final design assistance to pull all of their details together and provide all of their wedding day stationery.

With Heidi and Al's wedding invitation suite as inspiration, we designed ceremony programs, table numbers, escort cards, and complimenting note cards, in their wedding colors of ivory, blush and charcoal. We worked with Heidi to find the perfect linens for the guest tables in an ecru crinkle taffeta and the accent tables in a blush lamour to compliment their venue, the flowers, and the stationery. The refined, yet fluttery muted palette fit perfectly with Heidi's vision.

Connecticut Wedding Planner | Anna and Justin's Webb Barn Wedding

Nothing could have made us feel more honored or privileged to meet Anna and Justin just three short months before their wedding day. When we sat in our studio, the two of them gushing over each other, telling us about their romance, their lives, their paths which lead them to their upcoming wedding, we couldn't help but leap on board, assist them with the remainder of their planning, and bring their wedding to life on a beautiful day in May!

Anna and Justin's wedding came together with an incredible group of vendors including Justin & Mary who photographed their day as seen from the swoonworthy pictures within this post!

The vision for Anna and Justin's wedding was inspired by the intricacies of their eight year courtship: time traveled, well layered, bohemian décor, with fluttery, feminine and refined tones set amidst a natural setting.

Anna was pure perfection in a Modern Trousseau lace gown which featured a split tulle train and exceptional detailing across the back, while her maids wore ethereal, goddess style mint colored gowns and Grecian hair pieces. Justin and his men sported a classic 1940s look with sleek gray suits and ties, with cheeky Adidas Rod Laver tennis sneakers . Anna carried an aqua blue wrapped bouquet, jeweled with a family heirloom locket, containing pictures of her grandmother, featuring ivory garden roses, white sweet peas, white veronica, dusty miller and white peonies.

Our beautiful couple wed on the grounds of the historic Webb Steven's Museum in a personal ceremony officiated by a family friend. When the skies opened and the rain fell, they remained together, hand in hand, under umbrellas held by their matron of honor, Anna's sister, and best man, Justin's father, and pledged their love to one another forever.

The rustic Webb Barn was completely transformed to reflect a vintage flea-market soiree. The entrance of the barn was flanked by antique french doors with guests names and table numbers written on the beveled glass panes, while draping, hung and side-gathered in the doorway welcomed guests to the jewels within. The back wall of the interior of the barn was decorated majestically with exquisite sunburst mirrors of a variety of shapes and sizes, which in turn reflected the incredible array of silver chandeliers suspended from the rafters. A mix of both round and long tables set with the airiest of pale pink overlay, stacked books and mirrored trays, gold chargers and a myriad of tea-stained, pink and ivory roses in vintage tea-ups and mercury glass created a warm and enchanting dinner party feel. Stacked vintage suitcases, mismatched candlesticks and a type writer guest book upped the eclectic ante. Slip-covered lounge furniture set both indoors and out with an array of scrolled linen and green silk pillows beckoned guests to gather, converse and rest tired toes, while a variety of Moroccan inspired lanterns and mercury glass tea lights were hung from the trees, magically bouncing light about the property. Late night, Anna changed into a peach toned, high waisted, short frock with vintage lace and a sheer neckline, as she danced the night away with her guests.

In keeping with the intimate dinner party vibe, guests dined on a delectable duo plate of filet and sea bass, while the sides were served family style. To appease each and every sweet tooth in the house, Emily's Catering also served a duo plate dessert, of rich flourless chocolate torte and a tiramisu shooter which tasted divine. Justin's cousin crafted the couple's wedding cake, a sweet three tired confection of chocolate and coconut. In a nod to the sweetest type of love, later in the evening, handmade sweet treats were displayed in hand-blown containers with personalized tags and vintage cake stands to tie in with the flea-market typewriter wedding. As guests boarded the school bus shuttles at the end of the celebration, individual bags of warm doughnuts and chocolate milk were offered to make the ride home that much sweeter.

Anna and Justin, thank you so much for being so wonderful, for being so in love and for making everyone around you smile. You were both complete joy and pleasure and we wish you so much happiness in all that life has in store for you.

A little under a year ago, Stephanie and Matt contacted us to design and plan their sleek and modern seaside wedding. And so we did. Then, Hurricane Irene ravaged the shoreline and left us without a venue, and it was time to pick up the pieces and plan again. As they say, luck is in the cards, because it just so happens that our new venue in New Haven is even better suited for our couple (and their guests who have flown in from all over the world to celebrate with them) than before. Just eight months ago, we met Hillary and her father Tom for the first time to discuss Hillary and Rory's wedding vision, including the gorgeous property that would be the grounds for the entire weekend festivities. Connecticut Wedding Planner | Alissa and John wed with rustic chic, downtown style!

This past winter we had the honor and privilege of working with the beautiful Alissa Dinneen and her adorable husband John on their downtown rustic chic wedding at Connecticut's Old State House. I originally met Alissa through a past client whose wedding she had photographed and she came to us to assist her with designing her wedding stationery suite. I couldn't have been more excited when Alissa asked us to help her design her wedding as well. Together we designed a sophisticated city wedding with both glamorous detail and rustic accents, perfect for Alissa and John's winter wedding celebration.

Alissa and John had commissioned a team of the very best vendors in the biz and we loved being a part of it all. Choosing the photographer was something Alissa was very passionate about and she knew from early on that she would ask Laura and Ricardo from Alternate Angles to photograph her wedding. Their images - throughout this blog post, are nothing short of incredible, and they were so wonderful to work with on Alissa and John's wedding day.

Alissa and the ladies readied under the talents of Naomi and Angela from Naomi Martinez Salon and then Alissa, the glowing bride donned her stunning Judd Waddell gown from The White Dress By The Shore, and the bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo.

Alissa and John wed during the late afternoon and the 2 feet of snow on the ground paired with the mid-ceremony squall only added to the magic of the personalized, touching, and emotional marriage ceremony, presided over by Reverend Victoria Burdock.

Following the ceremony, guests moved into the Main Foyer and Lady Justice Foyer for the cocktail hour and were dazzled by the creative and delicious delights of Emily's Catering Staff. The bar included specialty cocktails choosen by Alissa and John - with a bit of a competition between the two! We worked swiftly to convert the ceremony space into the reception space.

We designed the entire stationery suite in Charcoal, Ice Blue, and Platinum, and used those colors to design the decor as well. Incorporating the rustic chic elements such as the Galvanized Lanterns, the fabulous moss and wood towered orchid arrangements, designed by Jessica at Jessica's Country Flowers, and the white wash distressed chairs, played off the sheen of the ice blue linens, the silver chargers, and the jewel embellished napkin rings.

Guested danced the night away under the direction of Butch Gray amidst the incredible warm ambience created by accent lighting by Dan at ShinDig Lighting.

Tom Morlock from Vantage Point Films provided this stunning highlights reel. His talent and creativity are incredible and he is wonderful to be around and work with.

Just three months before their wedding day, filled with amazing ideas and teamed with incredibly talented and generous vendors, Anna and Justin walked into our studio all smiles and we were all ears! We remembered reading Anna's sister Katrina's entry into the Deserving Couple Wedding Contest, led by Jessica's Country Flowers last spring and were drawn to their story and Katrina's thoughtfulness. So it was to our delight, at the late stage, that we would be able to guide them in bringing their vision to life on their wedding day.

We so much enjoyed that initial meeting, and have loved planning the little details with them ever since, and although it was only three months ago, it feels like we have known them forever. Today, Anna and Justin will tie the knot in front of their family and friends and celebrate following at the Webb Barn. With a soft, fluttery, and bit of a feminine vibe mingled with warm vintage color tones, the sweetest of details, and an absolutely beautiful couple (seriously!), we can not wait to share it all with you - so be sure to stop back in and relive it with us in pictures.

Katie and Alan's Winter Wonderland Wedding!

Last February we collaborated with Jessica’s Country Flowers on a winter wonderland inspired wedding that was also a photo shoot specifically for Style Me Pretty. Jessica pulled together a pretty mean all star cast of contributing vendors and the wedding was an incredible execution of intermingled talents. Imaginations ran wild as we all thought of ways to make our couple’s wedding beautiful, unique and most definitely a winter wonderland.

Katie and her maids began their morning getting ready at The Society Room, which has the most beautiful and welcoming bridal suite. Katie wore Watters gown that was so detailed and fluttery, just exquisite. Katie’s dress inspired her incredible sweet pea and garden rose bouquet that Jessica totally knocked out of the park, accented by a fabulous Regina B. broach. The girls in metallic eggplant cocktail dresses and champaign bejeweled shoes looked absolutely gorgeous. Katie and Alan had their first sighting at the Old State House, and then shots were taken around Hartford, including the majestic City Hall. How glamorous are our couple walking in the snow lined street???? Love it!

Katie and Alan were married on the first floor of Society Room flanked by two of Jessica’s signature branchy arrangements with orchid garland and tiny votives. Sixpence For Your Shoe provided all the stationery and we hung all the ceremony programs from chairs for symmetry. The mood was exceptionally romantic as they pledged their love to one another forever.

The reception was a glorious mix of rustic wood, white flower and crystal admist the old world grandeur of the two storied ballroom. Tables were dressed with an ivory shimmer linen, while napkins were adorned with an eggplant ribbon and broach accent. Table numbers were mismatched silver vintage frames, inspired by designs on the couple’s stationery. Centerpieces were a combination of all white fluttery blooms overflowing low fleur des lis containers and atop more rustic tall wooden "trees" made of recycled wood. Simple yet beautiful sweet pea, calla and hydrangea arrangements were in every nook and cranny you could possibly put them; our favorite being stacked on the lit mirrored backed bar that seemed to glow. Escort cards were hung on a crystal draped Manzanita branch arrangement that dazzled like a chandelier. A fondant cake with snowflake and crystal detail stood on top of a silver custom stand, accented by ribbon and broach. Guests feasted via a formal sit down dinner and following, a New York DJ kept the dance floor packed with modern beats. Late night guests treated themselves to an extensive all white candy bar and white chocolate dipped candy apples. Vintage inspired custom linen napkins were a sweet accompaniment to the evening’s goodies.

Katie and Alan, you are among the kindest and most in love couples we have ever encountered. Being a party of your day, from design to execution was a pure privilege. We also thank all of the vendors involved for inspiring us both on this project and many others going forward. It was a pleasure to work with you! Brian and Helen marry with history and tradition!

On a gorgeous June day on the Connecticut Shoreline, Brian and Helen wed in front of family and friends, many who had traveled near and far to witness their nuptials. The jaw-dropping Branford House Mansion served as the backdrop for the ceremony and as the reception location. Working with Brian and Helen to stylize, design, and plan their wedding was pure joy. Brian, a professional wedding photographer himself was referred to us by his friend and mentor, Becker - thank you Becker!

And speaking of photographers - Brian selected Jonathan Canlas to capture his wedding to Helen. He loved that Jonathan shoots in film, and we will thrilled with his work. Thanks to Jonathan for all of these incredible images in this post.

The bridal party too Essex by storm, all getting ready at the suites in the Griswold Inn. Helen and the ladies readied with the lovely ladies of Jennie Fresa Beauty Library. Honoring Helen’s Chinese heritage, the formalities began with a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony at the Griswold Inn before heading to the Branford House. During this ceremony, it is tradition, that Helen is formally introduced to Brian’s family, and tea is exchanged as a symbol of respect. Helen wore a stunning plum colored, peacock inspired Chinese Wedding Dress, known as a Chi Pao, designed by Brocade Apparel, Brian was quite dapper in a Teal and Gold Chinese 2 button jacket, custom made based on the modern cut from J. Crew by Brocade Apparel as well!

For the western ceremony, Helen wore a Maggie Sottero and Brian donned J. Crew with ties from Brooks Brothers and Burberry (yes, hes that cool to have ties to swap!). The maids turned heads in chiffon from the Limited, and the guys stylized in J Crew as well, not to be outdone, they donned argyle socks!

Brian and Helen arrived at the Branford House in a vintage Porsche Roadster, and gathered for pictures with their bridal party. As guests arrived, they were greets to refreshments and made their way to the lawn, where walnut chairs with brightly colored ribbons marked the ceremony location. Helen, always the thinker and the style maven, planned ahead, with stained tree stump slices for the ladies in her party to stand on, so that no heels would sink and no shoe go harmed - genius!

Two large ceremony arrangements flanked the front of the ceremony space, provided by Carey from Stems Flower Design. In addition to the ceremony arrangements, Carey nailed the florals all around, with stunning bouquets, lively bouts, and centerpieces inside! In a personalized ceremony, led by Justice of the Peace Sara Carson they married, and the celebration of their union unfolded!

Inside the mansion, the incredible details continued. Pulling commentary from our Style Me Pretty feature on this wedding, we described the following:

"The color palette was selected early on. A vibrant mix of aqua and teal, lilac and plum, with accents of silver and cream, all feminine and sweet, set the stage for a gorgeous contrast off the rich masculinity of the interior of the Branford House Mansion, in Groton, Connecticut. A bit of preppy and a bit of whimsy, balanced with vintage nods to create a sophisticated and polished event that was down right current and fun."

"The cocktail hour was fun and festive, casual and cool. Guests enjoyed American favorites both stationary and passed, while they mingled the grounds, gathered around the photobooth, and selected their escort cards, strung amidst images from Brian and Helen’s engagement session."

"Inside the mansion, round tables donned rich aqua linens, topped with scalloped china, amethyst goblets, Victorian lilac lamour napkins, and modern styled silverware and chopsticks greeted guests. Two styles of centerpieces, incorporating lilacs, roses, peonies and greens, added height and variety to the grand space. Individual menus detailed the traditional eight course Chinese meal, guests were about to receive. Warm uplighting and a purple ceiling wash finished the look. As the evening progressed, guests danced away, delighted in assorted Tazo Teas, and snacked on delectable treats from a fabulous dessert buffet. Brian and Helen bid farewell to a sparkler send-off and rode off in a vintage Roadster Porsche. A spectacular end to a spectacular wedding!"

Cocktail hour and dessert cuisine was provided by the ever amazing team at A Thyme To Cook and the Chinese cuisine for dinner was provided by Victor Huynh from NYC. We amassed the beautiful decor through a variety of rental companies, including our favorites, Party Rental, BBJ Linen and Linen Hero. Our go to guy Rob Waldron at Standing Ovations kept the crowd grooving under the warm lighting of Dan from ShinDig Lighting. The invitations and stationery were provided by Papeterie and epitomized the style that Brian and Helen ooze!

It wouldn't be appropriate to conclude without one additional nod to Drew at Shade Tree Films. His work is emotional, tear jerking, and real, I can't help but love this preview clip he provided!

Congratulations Alissa and John

Today, we are so excited to celebrate Alissa and John's wedding at the Old State House in Hartford. Alissa is the super talent behind Alissa Dinneen Photography, and we have been delighted to get to know her better throughout her wedding planning journey.

We first began working with Alissa, when she approached us to design her wedding stationery. She photographed the wedding of a past stationery and design client of ours, and loved what we were able to create for them. The relationship grew, and together with Alissa, Lindsay and I helped to design Alissa and John's wedding as an intimate winter dinner party with a bit of rustic charm and a bit of old world glamor.

I can't think of a more appropriate florist than Jessica at Jessica's Country Flowers to bring the floral vision to life, and was thrilled to hear that she was also working with Alissa and John! Undoubtedly delectable fare will be served by Rick and his team at Emily's Catering.

Today, we were thrilled at the arrival of a box full of the 2011 La Bella Bride Magazines! Over the summer we collaborated with Jane from Just for You Weddings to recreate and expand on two client tablescapes for inclusion in this year's issue. With our designs, the gorgeous flowers from Jane, rentals from Party Rental, LTD and Wildflower Linens and picture perfect photography by Sara Zarrella, we couldn't be more pleased to see it in print!

Multiple heightened abundant blooms of hydrangea, orchids, and garden roses sitting on a variety of shapely tall and low mercury glass containers admidst jewel-accented candle holders grace a layering of aloe-colored runners and an ivory Irish Linen. Softly draped champagne chair covers, green patterned china, tinted stemware, and a hemp napkin ring, adorned with a broach detail add a natural yet glamourous accent to the overall table design.

Nautically inspired with a touch of whimpy: royal blue and white striped linen, golden yellow chargers, cranberry-splashed champagne and polka dotted accents. Varied height arrangements in rich colors atop banana-leaf-lined glass cylinders surround a large arrangement of soft sand, driftwood, and wind blown sea grasses.

2010 - An Incredible Year in Review!

2010 was an incredible year - starting with our first client's wedding the first weekend in January, and ending the year in mid-November. We had a wonderul time working with all of our clients to design their dream weddings. It was a year of growth, challenges, reflection and new friendships.

2010 was a milestone year for Sixpence For Your Shoe, representing our fifth year in the wedding business, working with some of the same amazing vendors this year, as we had when we first began. We feel honored to be among such an incredibly talented pool of wedding professionals in Southern New England.

In 2010, we were delighted to see our work featured in print at La Bella Bride Magazine and Connecticut Bride and online at Style Me Pretty, Wedding Chicks, Prepare to Wed, and Brides.com. Sixpence For Your Shoe was also recognized as a "The Knot, Best of Weddings 2010 Winner"

Julie and Chris wed at Jonathan Edwards Winery

“When you were a little girl and asked what you wanted to be when you grew up, you said a doctor and Julie, you are a doctor,” were the opening words of Julie’s father as he proudly welcomed family and friends to his daughter and new son in law’s wedding. There was not a dry eye after this sentence and I think his words sums up Julie perfectly. Beauty, brains and ambition. And Chris, with his easy smile and fun demeanor is an amazing compliment to her in every way. So it was no surprise that from the moment we met with Julie and her parents in the spring of 2009, her vision was clear: a tented vineyard wedding with a modern vibe, a lux feel and air of formality. With the collaboration of a superstar team of vendors, incredible blue sky and later starry night, their wedding was a dream come true.

On Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, Julie and her ladies sipped mimosas and got their beauty on at the Bellisimo Grande Hotel with the assistance of Janice and Angela of Naomi's Studio & Salon. Julie wore a San Patrick gown from Camille Bridal Boutique, with her hair in sultry waves loosely pulled back she looked so happy and relaxed, just glowing with excitement! The girls wore long black Bill Levkoff gowns with champagne sashes and looked exquisite, perfectly accessorized with their Marc Jacobs clutches, gifts from Julie. Bakes & Baldwin Floral Company was the perfect florist for this event, and just killed it with all the arrangements. Julie's calla bouquet in particular, was a dead on match to her stationery suite, designed by Sixpence For Your Shoe.
Late in the afternoon, guests arrived at Jonathan Edwards Winery and were treated to refreshing hydration station prior to being escorted to their seats, while Millennium Music’s string trio played in the background. The music for the ceremony was exceptional. The bridesmaids processed to "Clocks" by Coldplay, followed by Julie being escorted by both her parents to the "Theme Song from Romeo and Juliet (A Time for Us)” by Nino Rota. We were all captivated by the beauty of the music, surrounding views and intimacy of the ceremony, which was performed by Chris' father. Julie and Chris were married under a stunning draped and floral structure deep within the vines. Pews were adorned with roses and dahlias and we effortlessly scattered petals in the aisle. With a kiss and a cheer, the couple was finally wed and recessed with huge smiles!

Cocktail hour followed inside the tasting room, as well as the adjoining stone patio and deck, where the wine and the specialty blackberry martinis were flowing and everyone got their eat on to fabulous comfort food fare provided by Coastal Gourmet. The mini mac n cheese, sliders and mashed potato bar were the perfect foods for this young and fun loving crowd.

The reception took place in the soaring and softly draped tent. We did a fabulous champagne galaxy linen on each table with black lacquer chairs, place settings and stemware. Champagne galaxy napkins were folded with a menu and donation card tucked within, further accented by a mokara orchid. A combination of high and low arrangements containing orchids, dahlias and gerbera in a range of reds provided interest within the tent and brought the eye up to the French iron chandeliers. Dan Gombos of ShinDig Lighting pin spotted the tables and washed the ceiling with the most perfect *champagne with a touch of Bordeaux* glow, which reflected fabulously on the black and white dance floor. Ana Parzych provided the seriously beautiful confection, the orchid detail was extraordinary, as well as a fun groom's cake. Boston's Downtown Fever played modern hits such as Lady Gaga and kept this crowd dancing and laughing till the end. Julie and Chris, it was a privelage for us to plan this day with you and your parents. We wish you all the happiness in the world and best of luck in your new careers.

Jessica and Brendan wed on a glorious fall day!

We first connected with Jessica and Brendan just 7 months before their big day. After a couple of emails each direction, Jessica and I realized we actually knew each other, from our school days and our brothers had played sports together. During our first meeting, it was fun to reconnect and talk all about Jessica and Brendan's wedding ideas.

A good portion of their wedding vendors had already been selected, but were seeking our guidance for event design and coordination. Both with demanding careers and challenging priorities, they knew they wanted their wedding to be spectacular, beautiful, polished and fun, but weren't certain how it would all come together.

Jessica and Brendan selected Amanda Tedeschi Photography who captured their entire wedding day beautifully and provided all of the photos in this post.

Jessica and the girls started the day at the Mystic Residence Inn, where Lindsay and Jennie of Jennie Fresa Beauty Library came in for hair and make-up respectively. Jessica wore the gorgeous Melissa Sweet Lia, purchased at The White Dress by the Shore. The gown fit Jessica like it was made just for her, absolutely stunning! Brendan and the guys also readied at the Residence Inn, looking quite dapper in classic black with a modern twist.

Jessica and Brendan wed at the Harkness Chapel at Connecticut College, following in Brendan's sister's footsteps, and at a location rich in meaning for his family.

The Chapel was decorated beautifully thanks to their florist Sandra, from A Special Place, who captured the essence of the modern garden party perfectly, mixing roses, orchids, callas, and a variety of gorgeous greens in statement altar arrangements, pew decor, and in the bouquets and bouts! The lively colorful bouquets were the perfect offset to the sophisticated smokey purple bridesmaids gowns. We provided Jessica and Brendan's wedding ceremony programs and all other coordinating day-of stationery.

The meaningful and personalized ceremony was touching, readings were provided by family members and Jessica and Brendan were glowing as they excited as newlyweds!

In the months leading up to the wedding, we created story boards, considered florals, and selected linens and speciality rentals all the while building the refined garden party wedding which balanced beautifully off the rich interior of their stunning seaside reception location, The Branford House Mansion.

Guests were greeted to a patio cocktail hour with delicious stationary and passed hors d'oeuvres provided by Felix and the fabulous team from Grand Gourmet. Escort cards were apple candles, with leaves directing guests to the appropriate dinner tables. The dinner which followed was absolutely delicious as well.

Inside the mansion, tables were dressed with a subtle green "Fern" Damask linen, rich purple lamour napkins, and tied with a silver grosgrain ribbon. Table numbers were each framed in silver, and amethyst goblets polished the look. In the main ballroom, candelabras drooling with gorgeous flowers in Jessica and Brendan's green and purple palette drew the eye up, and in the East ballroom, low arrangement provided a more cozy and intimate feel. The mantles were decorated with tall pillars of floating candles and loose arrangements to provide warmth to the space. In front of the West ballroom fireplace, a traditional 4 tiered confection from Marjolaine Bakery sat atop a beautiful silver cake platter. Adding to the overall ambiance and glow, ShinDig Lighting provided uplights, a wash and pinspots in both amber and purple bringing all of the decor to life!

Guests danced the night away under the direction of Kurt from Fun Factory DJs and it was all caught on film by John from AJV Video who was such a pleasure to work with.

Jessica and Brendan, is was our honor and privilege to be a part of bringing your wedding vision to life. You are an incredible couple, so warm and genuine and we wish you all the love and happiness in the world for many years to come.

Allyson and Mike - a sunflowery, sunshining wedding!

Allyson is one of the kindest, warmest, sweetest people one will ever happen to cross paths with. All smiles and sincere as can be - she is a woman who glows, inside and out! Mike is a comedian, a straight shooter, and above all, has the most incredible love for Ally. Together they are a perfect combination.

So for their wedding, it was no surprise that the sun shined all weekend, the warm late summer day rolled into evening, a gorgeous wedding took place in the afternoon, and an incredible party with an enthusiastic crowd owned the night. For a couple like Allyson and Mike, it couldn't have been any other way.

I first met Ally as she played the role of vendor (Ally Cakes) to past clients Amanda and Kyle. She crafted their amazingly awesome R2D2 cake and provided their delicious cupcakes. Allyson has a nack for baking and I was floored by her creations. To have her reach out for Sixpence to assist in planning her own wedding was an honor. We were thrilled!

From the very first meeting with had with Ally, she talked about her love for sunflowers, and her interest in a yellow and green wedding. Although some other ideas were loosely considered, I couldn't have been more please to see Ally's first instinct come to life. Additionally, both Ally and Mike talked about how important the actual marriage ceremony was, and how they wanted guests to not only have an amazing time at the reception, but also truly feel a part of the most meaningful moment of the day and their lives, as they wed.

We were so thrilled to recommend Manhattan based Stacey Ilyse Photography to our clients. Having first been introduced to her work through a 2009 client, it was great to have Ally and Mike make such a connection with her upon meeting. All of the gorgeous photos of this point are courtesy of Stacey!

Ally and the ladies started the day at Ally's parent's gorgeous home, just minutes from both their Church and reception location. They had gotten their hair done at the Ryan John Salon, first thing, and all readied, lunched, and sipped champange following! Allyson searched and searched for the perfect wedding gown and hers was waiting for her at Something Blue Bridal, a gorgeous Watters gown. She added a sash, which matched the ladies deep green Lorelei dress from J.Crew. Sixpence designed Ally and Mike's invitation set, using a graphic Ally had created herself on the insert cards. It really set the stage for the personality of the entire day!

The limos arrived at the house and the ladies we off to St. Pius X Church in Fairfield. The Church was decorated beautifully, as Jane from Just For You Weddings provided the eye catching and vibrant florals based on Ally's sunflower vision. The bouquets were the perfect mix of Sunflower, Stock, Viburnam, and Hypericum Berries, the pews were tied with large sunflower blooms, and the arrangements on the alter were brimming with mixed yellow and white flowers, adding a pop and height at the front of the Church. Guests were handed ceremony programs in white and green as they entered the Church.

The ceremony itself was beautiful, emotional and touching. Incorporating family and friends was important to Ally and Mike. Allyson's friend's string ensemble played, and another close family friend sang. I knew when I saw the joy in Ally and Mike's eyes as they exited the Church that the ceremony was all they had hoped it would be.

After the wedding ceremony ended, the reception beckoned at the Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield. The Brooklawn represents the quintessential southern Connecticut Country Club. It's gorgeous interior with detailed moldings, delicate chandeliers, one right after the next, and a wrap around porch with rocking chairs welcoming all who arrive on site.

Ally and Mike arrived in style, a vintage Mercedes convertible, borrowed from Ally's aunt. When guests arrived, they were welcomed to the porch, where high and low cocktail tables were dressed with Shabby Chic Lanterns accented with a single sunflower bloom and pillar candle. Inside, smartly dressed white linened tables, accented with white chivari chairs and emerald green cushions, and fun centerpieces provided by Jane greeted guests. We polished the napkins with single lemon leaves and a pop of yellow ribbon.

After a touching welcome by Ally's father Jim, and then some light-hearted and humorous toasts by Laura and John, Ally's sister and Mike's brother, guests dined and danced the night away under the direction Rob from Standing Ovations DJ.

For dessert, Ally, who is a big cupcake fan (of course she is!!!) planned for guests to select their own cupckaes from a large square tiered stand which has been shared among friends as they get married! Great Cakes provided the delicous cupcakes, and Ally provided the sunflower toppers. A small cake sat atop the stand, with a cake topper which has been in Ally's family for numerous generations, a touching sentiment of love and family. A candy buffet greeted guests as they exited, it was a huge hit, and so fun to watch everyone's excitement as they helped themselves to sweets!

Allyson and Mike, thank you so much for having us be a part of your wedding planning and wedding day. We wish you years of love and happiness together!

Congratulations Nicole and Gavin!

Once upon a time, nearly 30 years ago, two little girls were bumble bees in dance class together. They lost touch over the years, only to be reunited in junior high through a mutual friend, then found each other again in high school working at the same retail shop and then years later out of no where, both showed up all spiffy and pressed at new hire orientation for their first job out of college.

One of those bumble bees was me and the other was my dear friend Nicole, who is the sweetest, most fun and not to mention incredibly stylish gals you will ever meet. And today she will mary Gavin, the kindest, most genuine and Mini Cooper obsessed guy I know. They are perfect together.

The details of their Bond Ballroom wedding are going to be lovely and it's going to be 65 degrees this November day!

Christina and Dave's Seaside Soiree!

It was just a little over this time last year I received a call from a lovely mother from Nebraska saying, “My daughter likes your web-site, we are planning a wedding at her grandparent’s home in Old Lyme and will be in town this weekend, can you meet us?” As a matter of fact, I did happen to be free, and that Saturday, as we sat and chatted in the beautiful sunroom with panoramic views of the property where Christina and Dave would wed the following summer, I knew our collaboration was meant to be. Christina and Dave are die hard ski bums and a very laid back couple, so a “toes in the sand” wedding with a relaxed sense of elegance seemed to fit them perfectly. With the collaboration of the talented Christine of Azalea Floral Design and many shopping trips to Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware by her Christina’s mom Shawn, the wedding came together just as we had envisioned. Many thanks to Mother Nature too!

Saturday, July 17, 2010 was one of those perfect summer shoreline days where the sun shines sweetly on your skin and a salty breeze reminds all us die hard New Englanders why we could never live anywhere else. Christina and her maids started their day at Salon Crimson in Old Saybrook, and then the crew headed on over to the Old Lyme Beach Club to gussy up. Christina wore a ribboned dress by the Robert Bullock Collection from Birnbaum and Bullock that looked and fit as if it was designed just for her, and her maids were fashionable in and of themselves in teal blue cocktail dresses and adorable beaded flip flops. The guys wore classic grey suits, unfussy sophistication at its best. A first sighting followed on the deck of the club. I loved the sweet and easy seaside colors Christine incorporated in the bridal part flowers of dreamy sand colored roses, lissys and natural greens.

The ceremony took place on the lawn of her grandparent’s incredible estate, which they purchased over 40 years ago and was once a fishing village! Guests were greeted by a cheery lemon leaf garland fence and further welcomed by refreshing lemonades. Christina and her bridal party walked out of the front door of her grandparen'ts home which was flanked by two fabulous arrangements, and down to the ceremony site overlooking the water as Millennium Music played in the background. I know all guests took in the incredible setting as they watched the couple wed with views of Long Island Sound in the distance, keeping their cool with raffia fans. Following the ceremony, everyone gathered south on the property to toast the newlyweds!
The reception followed at the Old Lyme Beach Club and what fun we had decorating the old fashioned interior. Guest tables were situated both inside the club as well as outside under the awning, and featured a myriad of centerpieces consisting of pillar candles, lanterns, shells, and seaside arrangements. We ribboned napkins and accented them with shells at each place setting. The majority of the guests had traveled from far and wide for this "Destination Connecticut" wedding and truly enjoyed dining and mingling right on the beach. Vanderbrook Catering provided the cake, which was classically beautiful and delicious. DJ Rob Waldron spun tunes loved by the young and old and the crowd danced the night away under the open air. One of the most original details was the commissioned artist by Christina’s father to paint the wedding. His work was amazing to watch and what a piece of art they will have to cherish this day forever.

Christina and Dave, what a fun wedding you had! We loved seeing the happiness in your faces as you celebrated your family with your nearest and dearest! We truly enjoyed working with you both and your families. We wish you all the best in your married life.

Nicole and Bobby wed on the Connecticut shore!

Gorgeous days were in no short supply this summer, and on the June day that Nicole and Bobby wed, the weather did not disappoint. The gorgeous weather, gorgeous couple and gorgeous wedding came together to create a truly spectacular and memorable day for these high school sweethearts turned newlyweds!

A special thank you to Jerome Braga of Studio1923 who perfectly captured the wedding in a way only he can do! His images speak for themselves.

On the morning of the wedding, Nicole and the ladies, an entourage of 14 women, all beautified under the artistic hands of Tonya and Susan from Naomi Martinez Salon. Nicole wore a custom gown, created by New York designers Birnbaum & Bullock. She couldn't have possibly been any more radiant than she was, just glowing. While Nicole and the ladies were sipping mimosas, laughing and chatting, Bobby and his guys spent the morning enjoying the sunshine and the pool before getting ready for the ceremony.

The insanely talented Kat and her team from KD&J Botanica created bouquets and bouts for the bridal party that were chic, modern and vibrant, perfect for such a stylish couple and their bridal party!

Up the street from the Saybrook Point Inn, the ceremony was held at St. John Roman Catholic Church. Guests arrived via the vintage trolley from Double A Transportation. At the Church, wreaths graced the doors, and dendrobium orchid clusters dressed the pews. Guests were given ceremony programs with eggplant covers and bright green accents designed and created by us. A string ensemble from Wildwood Groups played in the background.

Following the ceremony, the bridal party, family, and friends made their way back to the patio at the Saybrook Point Inn for cocktail hour. A harvest table with a burlap runner was topped with various fresh floral and fruit decor, including grapes, herbs, artichokes and lanterns. Miniature terra cotta pots filled with moss served as escort card holders. Cocktail tables were dressed with eggplant linens and lemongrass green ceramic pots held clusters of antiqued hydrangea in ivory and purple.

The ballroom was magical. The space was transformed with fruitwood chivari chairs, elegant ivory ribbon taffeta linens, taupe irish linen napkins with custom eggplant edging, wine colored ribbon detail with fresh rosemary sprigs, and colored champagne flutes and water goblets. Kat created low, full, lush arrangements which varied by each table. They sat in pressed cork containers and were accented with candles, herbs, and grains. Each table was named with a different wine, perfect for the Wine Country Villa theme of the reception.

Creative Cakes by Donna wowed by creating a four tiered dark green fondant confection, with deep purple ribbon edging and elaborate sugar flowers and petals delicately scattered across the cake. It tasted as incredible as it looked!

Nicole and Bobby shared their first dance to Michael Buble's, "The Best is Yet to Come". The toasts which followed were touching and emotional, and quite a bit comical as well. With a couple who have known each other for so much of their lives, it is only natural that there be so much to say! I always love this peek into couple's lives and hearing the words from their friends and loved ones.

Guests danced the night away, under the direction of one of our fav DJs, Rob at Standing Ovations. Cinematographer, Matt Fink from Digital Media Odyssey was on hand to capture the entire day on film, we can't wait to see what he has to share!

Nicole and Bobby, we loved getting to know you both, working with you to plan your beautiful wedding and design your wedding stationery. Your love for each other is so pure and so true, and the love of your family and friends was glaring. Always surround yourselves with love and you will always be graced with the happiness I saw in your eyes on your wedding day!

Congratulations Paul and Krystal!

Well just 2 months shy of 2 years ago, Lindsay and I sat down with Paul and Krystal (the powerhouse fotography duo from Studio Foto!) to share in the joy of their engagement and discuss their early thoughts on their wedding to come. They knew right away - 10.10.10 would be the day they tie the knot - celebrating their 10 plus years together and many, many, more to come!

Paul and Krystal were taking a brisk December hike up one of their favorite mountains, which also happens to be one of my husband's and my favorite mountains, Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire, when Paul bent on one knee to propose to the love of his life, Krystal. As they retold the story to us, you could feel the sheer love and their excitement, I get chills just thinking of it.

Special Thanks to Jacklyn from Jag Studios for capturing this unforgettable moment for Paul and Krsytal.

Paul and Krystal have been working countless hours, months, and nearly 2 years to make their wedding celebration a true reflection of themselves and their story. With vintage nods, a harvest undertone and the slightest touches of the old west, I have no doubt, that it is going to be incredible, the details are going to be insane, and we can not wait to come back and share all of it with you!

Carolyn and Jamie tie the knot at the New Haven Lawn Club!

I first met with Carolyn and her hip mom Kate last year when Carolyn was newly engaged and brimming full of soft and feminine ideas. Carolyn and Jamie are quite possibly the cutest couple ever, and we sought to create a wedding that suited both their personalities. We scoured along the East Coast for a perfect venue and ultimately selected the New Haven Lawn Club because as in Carolyn’s own words . . . “When I saw the huge art deco chandeliers, wall sconces and giant, breathtaking mirror over the fireplace that ties into the look of the chandeliers, I was sold." I have actually known Carolyn for quite some time and I could not imagine a more fitting venue for her ladylike soiree.

The minute her venue was set, Carolyn purchased what every vendor at her wedding proclaimed “the most amazing gown ever” from the lovely ladies at The White Dress by the Shore. With this feminine and whimsical Melissa Sweet dotted frock in mind, we designed every facet of her wedding. From her lighthearted and feather accented bouquet, to tiny dots on her letterpress stationery suite, to her reception decor, this dreamy dress served as the central inspiration and was carried over and over.

On Saturday, May 15, 2010, an incredibly beautiful early spring day, Carolyn and Jamie and their respective posh parties prepped at swanky Study Hotel in New Haven. Hair and make-up were provided by Tonya and Candice of Naomi's Studio and Salon. Carolyn's softly side gathered hair was adorned with a fabulous feather and cage veil also purchased at The White Dress, and on her feet were sparkly Jimmy Choo shoes. Ladies wore celery colored Kathlin Argirios (The White Dress), which were the perfect complement. The guys wore classic tuxes, our favorite! Marcy Green of Dragonfly Event provided the swoonworthy flowers, featuring sweet combinations of blush, green and ivory with a variety of textures. A first sighting followed at the Yale Campus.

Carolyn and Jamie wed in the late afternoon as sunbeams bounced about them and candles flickered softly on the ballroom's mantle and were further reflected by the grand mirror behind. Chairs were festooned with whimsical ribboned kissing balls. Millennium Music accompanied the ceremony and as always, did a flawless job. Following the ceremony, cocktail hour took place in the Main Dining Room which Marcy decorated with peonies and her own crystal collection. Guests had a wonderful time milling indoors and out while pianist Tom Ciancia played light and jazzy tunes in the background.

For the reception, the Ballroom was turned into an evening garden party with celadon linens, white wash chairs, and a variety of high candelabra, low trophy urns and multiple grouping centerpieces. Silver beaded chargers and Swiss linen dot napkins accented each place setting and Sixpence provided all the paper. Linen and chair rentals were provided by BBJ and Party Rental. Creative Cakes by Donna created a lovely fondant confection, reminiscent of our stationery and floral designs and it sat proudly on a silver beaded stand. Pin spots and up-lighting by Shin Dig cast a warm glow about the room and brought the whole look together. DJ Rob Waldron kept the party going all night long and guests were treated to milk and cookie shooters to keep 'em dancing.

Carolyn and Jamie, it was wonderful working with you both and with Carolyn's mom Kate! It's apparent to all who meet you that you are kindred spirits. We wish you all the best in your life together!

Congratulations Jessica and Brendan

Today we are thrilled to be celebrating Jessica and Brendan's wedding in the Groton/New London area! We have been working together for six months to design a fabulous fete with stunning colors in the eggplant, purple, fern and sage palettes and can not wait to share all of the gorgeous details with you! Jessica and Brendan are such a fun couple, Jessica is quiet, lighthearted and easy going, Brendan is charming, outgoing and witty, together, they are a wonderful pair. College sweethearts - and today they become husband and wife!

Lisa and Al Celebrate at The Mount!

Sigh, I know. I got a massive lump in my throat too the first time I saw this incredibly touching shot of clients Lisa and Al as they sat for a quiet moment together and reflected on their wedding in the Berkshires. To me this photo communicates so much about Lisa and Al as a couple and about the wedding we planned words cannot describe. . .a genuine sweetness, true love, and an absolute splash of fun as noted in Al’s mischievous grin.

When we first met with Lisa and Al in the spring of 2009, they were in the process of selecting their exquisite venue, The Mount in Lenox, Massachusetts, former private estate and gardens to author Edith Wharton. With a venue such as this, the literary themed wedding seemed to unfold right before our eyes - a bright and fun color palette perfect for late spring accented by eclectic and lighthearted bookish details. Beauty and buttoned up humor came together like ying and yang.

Saturday, May 29, 2010 started as an overcast day, but nothing could damper the spirits of Lisa and her maids as they had their hair and make-up done at Puffers Day Spa and Salon, owned by Lisa's maid of honor's family. Lisa was a vision in her Jim Hjelm lace gown and her girls were equally beautiful in their simple with a slight touch of vamp black cocktail dresses from White House Black Market. Marcy and Thom Green of Dragonfly Event provided all of the incredible flowers and did an extraordinary effort in bringing our cheeky vision to life in all facets. Lisa’s calla bouquet was accented by her wedding date with typewriter keys and the #1 key graced Albert’s calla bout.

The poignant ceremony took place at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Westfield. The pews were adorned by fun wreaths and we provided all the stationery.

It was raining when everyone left the church in anticipation of the grand celebration to follow, but by the time the guests arrived the skies had cleared and the most perfect evening remained. The Marketplace Catering greeted guests with many delicious bites, including lobster mac and cheese croquettes and definitely upped the party ante with salt rimmed margaritas!

The Mount, with its jaw dropping beautiful architecture and meticulous English gardens, evokes an incredible sense of history. Just walking within the spaces conjures up images of “The Age of Innocence.” The ballroom tables were dressed with a stunning champagne damask linen, gold rimmed china, rose napkins and tiny gold boxes filled with amazing truffles. They were further accented by old books, ink wells and other creative touches we all found on various antique shop treasure hunts. My favorite detail was the table numbers in which we adorned vintage books with old style house address numbers. The wedding featured a variety of centerpieces, although the glistening crystal candelabras really stole the show. All rentals were provided by Classical Tents and Party Goods.

We also incorporated vintage milk glass from both the bride the groom’s families in many nooks and crannies of the venue. The escort cards were in fact bookmarks with a typewriter font, placed around, none other than an antique typewriter and the sweetheart table was complimented with a vintage comptometer. And while I subsequently learned that our grand author famously wrote longhand and “let the pages gently drift to the floor” so that her secretary could pick them up and type them for her. . .I think she would have approved.

Following dinner, the couple and their guests danced the night away under a twinkle light lined awning. Our favorite DJ Rob Waldon of Standing Ovations provided the music and while the guest list was only 75, the party was huge success.

Lisa and Al, we enjoyed every minute of our collaboration together. The two of you are an inspiration to us all to stay young and in love forever. We wish you the best of luck in your new life here in Connecticut.

Athena and John wed with nautical flair!

Athena and John - oh where to begin! When Athena called me at the end of June, 2009 and she said, "I don't live here anymore, I am only in town today and tomorrow, is there any chance I can meet you?" I kind of just knew. I happened to be available, and happened to be in her neck of the woods and we met, in an adorable little coffee shop, just across the street from where she and John would wed nearly one year later. Athena is all business, she trusts her instincts and follows the facts. She said - "I like you, I want you to help plan my wedding" and we were off!

Athena always knew she wanted to be married on the town green in Essex. Her hometown, and although shes gone on to become a city girl, her roots are on the Connecticut Shore, and in the quaint little town of Essex. With her waterfront ceremony location, and reception at the Essex Yacht Club, we began to pull together the makings of a spectacular nautical wedding. Bright, colorful, and chock full of personality was what we created.

When the day had finally arrived, it wasn't the sunny and 76 degree day that Athena and John had hoped for - the rain was off and on, we watched and waited, waited and watched, and Athena reaffirmed her desire to wed at the waterfront park. As guests began arriving, the rain slowed and the clouds tried their best to clear. We set the chairs and ceremony space quickly and the music played - a string ensemble from the Wildwood Groups.

Athena glowed in her 2be gown, purchased at the Bridal Mall in Niantic, and John was quite dapper himself, in a navy blazer and Nantucket Red pants - a color he dared Athena he would wear and well, it stuck! Not only did he wear them, as well as the rest of the men in the wedding party, but the specialty cocktail was named in their honor. The maids wore navy - J. Crew. Hair and Makeup were provided by the wonderful team at Dana Bartone Salon

Yumiko at Hana Floral Design could not have been more spectacular in her selections for the flowers. They were perfect, the colors were so vibrant, and they really brought everything together. We provided all of the day-of stationery items.

As the ceremony ended, guests made their way - walking through town to the Essex Yacht Club for the reception. The sun was peaking through the clouds, with warm and buttery light. The Sperry Tent beckoned and what guests would find inside was even more of a treat. We paired royal blue and white striped linens, with golden yellow chargers, navy polka doted plates, and a sea glass blue saucer. On top, menus tied in the color palette, and Nantucket Red Napkins were tied with blue and white bakers twine. All of the rentals came from Party Rental!

Music was always something that Athena and John wanted to incorporate into the wedding theme. By naming the tables of favorite songs, and wedding songs of their family and friends, they paid tribute to their loved ones and then throughout the night, played those songs for their family and friends to dance to.

Our favorite DJ, Rob Waldron from Standing Ovations played tunes all night and the dancing got pretty intense.

Athena and John, we had so much fun planning with you and your families were so wonderful! It felt like we were old friends, and in a groove together. I wish you both years of happiness in your marriage.

Mika and Brendan wed at Eolia Mansion!

Mika and Brendan were married in the pergola garden at Eolia Mansion on a bright and sunny spring day, this past May! Lindsay met with Mika and Brendan's mother nearly a year before the wedding and could tell immediately how in love they were - college sweethearts, living in Boston, planning a wedding on the Connecticut Shore.

Mika knew from the beginning that incorporating her Japanese heritage into the wedding was very important. For the ceremony, Mika choose to work directly with Callie at Modern Trousseau to custom create a gorgeous lace trumpet gown. It is true that Mike would look stunning in anything, but we can honestly say - this gown was truly made for her! She was a knockout. The maids wore blush pink from Vera Wang, and the guys in classic black with a twist - a plaid tie with green!

The ladies readied for the wedding at the Mystic Marriott, with the assistance of both Janice from Naomi Martinez Salon, and Katie from Dana Bartone Salon.

We selected a spring and cheery palette of mixed greens and pinks. We worked with Yumiko at Hana Floral Design who Mika had an instant connection with to play off the color scope with a light romantic feel. We pulled in elements of Japanese design by adding custom made fans at each place setting, which were inscribed with Mika and Brendan's name and wedding date. Additionally, paper cranes served to compliment the escort cards, both surrounding and hanging from an arrangement set in the foyer of the Mansion. Under the patio tent, we used Power Posse to hang a canopy of Japanese lanterns, not only in the white, which they provide, but also in green, which we special ordered.

For the reception, Mika and her sisters, who were in her bridal party changed into traditional Japanese dress, Kimonos. Yukiko Sato from NYC came in to ensure the ladies were dressed just so! Mika's aunt offered a ritual dance in honor of the newlyweds.

Michael at Coastal Gourmet and his team were wonderful with the caterering, they even created speciality Japanese passed hors d'oeuvres based on a recipe Mika and Brendan provided.

Guests then danced the night away to the live tunes from the boston based band, Shine!

Amanda and Kyle wed at Saltwater Farm!

Last September, Amanda and Kyle were married at Saltwater Farm Vineyard, in Stonington, Connecticut. It was undoubtebly one of the most gorgeous September days I can ever remember. The sun shined, light fluffy clouds sailed by and the smell of salt air coming off of Wequeteqouck Cove in Stonington, Connecticut was divine. When we first met Amanda, just six months before her desired wedding date, we could see a strong sense of vision, a yearning for a wedding which would reflect both her and Kyle’s unique styles, a desire for a warm, welcoming and inviting celebration, and incorporate the importance of bringing two families together.

Amanda and the girls all readied for the day at the Inn at Stonington in the center of the Stonington Borough. The sun filled room was a flurry of activity, as Noelle from Sugar Salon provided the hair styling and DD Nickel provided the make-up.

Amanda selected a lace slim a-line gown with a plunging neckline by Modern Trousseau, purchased at The White Dress by the Shore. The girls wore Jenny Yoo, also from the White Dress!

Upon visiting Saltwater Farm Vineyard for the first time, Amanda and Kyle’s decision was made – they loved everything about it – the mix of old and new, rustic and modern, natural and landscaped grounds and a striking reception space, once an airline hanger. Using the landscape of the vineyard and architectural details of winery, Amanda and Kyle’s wedding began to take shape.

We planned for the ceremony in the vines, a cocktail hour on the patio, the reception in the Barrel Room, and then a lounge space in the wine loft. A color palette of green, purple and cream was chosen to compliment the vineyard. We choose Jane at Just For You to create all of the floral components of the wedding. Organic, natural, airy and textured, no two arrangements were exactly the same. Accenting the floral arrangements, Amanda and her father selected live plants, grasses, and mosses in rustic terra cotta pots to compliment the grounds.

As guests gathered for the ceremony, a hydration station greeted them. They then made their way into the vines, listening to the background music of a duo from Wildwood Groups. When the ceremony started, Archie, the Norwich Terrier played an integral part - the ring bearer.

Following the ceremony, guests were greeting to a mix of passed and stationary hors d'oeuvres all provided by Coastal Gourmet Caterers. The selections were fun and festive, with a touch of fall flair.

As guests moved into the reception spaces, they were greeted to some serious eye candy! Long guest tables were selected to create the feeling of a dinner party at home and lend to more table-side discussions between guests. In addition to the floral centerpieces and moss accent pieces, the tables were accompanied by fruitwood chivari chairs with amethyst cushions, amethyst table runners, hand made by Amanda’s mother, and individual guest menus, which tied into the overall stationery suite. Warm ambiance was provided with tabletop candlelight and amber hued up-lighting. Rentals were provided by Party Rental and lighting was provided by Power Posse.

Complementing the main reception space, we decorated the cozy wine loft area with oversized leather ottomans, plush pillows in green and purple and rich wooden accent tables. We rented the lounge furniture from American Furniture Rental. Guests loved the ability to escape a bit to a quieter spot, while still feeling like they were included in the overall party.

Adding the personal touches, Amanda and Kyle included family pictures, cupcakes and a themed R2D2 cake for dessert, provided by Ally Cakes, as well as a s’mores bar and patio fire pit.

Guests danced the night away to tunes Amanda and Kyle had selected with DJ Rob Waldron of Standing Ovations.

We couldn't have been happier to work with Amanda and Kyle on their gorgeous vineyard wedding. It was everything we expected and then some, and I believe Amanda and Kyle would say the same. We were thrilled to see their wedding featured on Style Me Pretty. You can find it here!

Today Alicia, Rachel and I are heading down to North Stonington in anticipation of Julie and Chris' wedding. We have been planning their "classic vineyard with a twist of modern" soiree for over a year now and are so excited the day is here at last! Julie and Chris, along with friends and family, have been celebrating their Connecticut weekend wedding since Friday. They are a really fun and gregarious crowd, which will make for an awesome party tonight.

My car is bursting, the weather is *perfect,* and we are working with an all star cast of vendors, what could be better?

Today, I am super excited to be heading to Fairfield for our clients Allyson and Mike's wedding! We have been working together to plan their fun and playful, bright and colorful, yellow, green and sunflower themed wedding for the last 9 months and the day has finally arrived. Allyson is the cutest and sweetest! She is every vendor's dream client - just SO nice, and today she is going to make one stunning bride. And Mike, he is so great too, he loved being involved in the planning and really took on responsibility and ran with it. You can just tell how excited he is to be marrying Ally today!

Today, our super sweet and incredibly kind clients Nicole and Bobby, will tie the knot and celebrate their marriage with their family and friends, in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

When Nicole called us, nearly a year and a half ago, she was thrilled to announce her engagement and we were delighted to hear from her! See, Bobby is the younger brother of Jen, a client of ours from 2007, and we absolutely loved working with Jen and her husband Tom, and their incredible family, so we couldn't say "yes" fast enough.

Nicole beams when she talks of her ideas and Bobby has quite the few of his own. Teamed up with some of the most talented vendors in the state, I have no doubt that their wedding is going to be stunning. We can't wait to share the pictures!

A long time ago, Lindsay and I remembered the name "Brian Khang". He shot some weddings as a photographer in CT before moving west to make it big, and that he did!! So imagine our delight, when we received his email last spring, that he and his lovely bride-to-be, Helen, were seeking our assistance to plan their incredible wedding! Of course we jumped for joy.

After months of cross country planning, visits to CT, endless considerations of table linens and decor, (yes, its true!), late night emailing and oodles of awesome details later, Brian and Helen's wedding day has finally arrived!

We couldn't be more excited to be celebrating Athena and John's wedding today in the quaint seaside town of Essex! Athena and John are the sweetest couple, Athena is cool as a cucumber, with a great eye for design and a heartwarming personality, John is the perfect match, a straight shooter and a bit reserved, who cares nothing more than to see Athena happy.

It was nearly one year ago, when I met Athena in a coffee shop in Essex for the first time, and knew from the start that their wedding was going to be incredible! The way he looked at her when he thought she wasn't noticing. . And when their eyes lit up over the location they were considering, well I fell in love with them all over again. Today they celebrate their matrimony at The Mount in Lenox, Massachusetts.

We have truly enjoyed designing their wedding with lots of bookish décor and details. Can’t wait to share it with you.

Amie and Tyler

On Saturday, October 17, 2009, we had the distinct pleasure of witnessing Amie and Tyler’s seaside autumn soiree come to fruition.

From the moment we first met, I felt an instant connection with Amie as we shared a similar appreciation for textured arrangements and seaside back drops. The mutual adoration between Amie and Tyler was apparent and together the newly engaged couple just glowed with love. New Yorkers, with roots in Connecticut and Tennessee, they envisioned their wedding to have a slightly rustic, yet romantic feel, with influences of both country and city. Upon their chosen venue Guilford Yacht Club, we designed the entire event around an “autumn in New York” theme with chocolate, burnt orange, and greens, lots of candles and tall branchy arrangements.

All of the beautiful photos were taken by Lunell of Troy Photography.

Amie and her bridal party began their day at Water’s Edge Resort and Spa with hair and make-up by the fabulous Angela and Janice, respectively, of Salon Naomi. Amie donned Modern Trousseau "Camille" purchased at The White Dress by the Shore and her ladies wore espresso dresses from J. Crew. A girl after my own heart, Amie strutted her stems in an incredible pair of blue soled "Loubs", a gift from Tyler. Now THAT is a fiancé.

While pulling storyboard ideas for Amie, I stumbled upon a tablescape Jessica of Jessica's Country Flowers had done for a photo shoot and instantly knew she was the florist for this event. Amie and her maids carried hand-tied bouquets consisting of milva and black magic roses, rose hips, seeded eucalyptus and millet; wrapped with a dark chocolate ribbon and vintage rhinestone buttons for added detail. Her little lady was adorably haute in her own right in a custom brown tulle and feather frock from Etsy seller Sweet Plume. She carried an equally magical fairy wand. So cute!

My favorite touch, however, was how we designed each of the guys’ boutonnières to be slightly different. It was one of those itty bitty details that definitely went noticed.

It was one of those “overcast in a good way" sort of days. The slight chill in the air, the smells of autumn, truly the perfect fall day. Amie and Tyler had their first sighting in the stair well of the resort, and then photos followed on the back lawn.

The ceremony took place at First Church in Saybrook, a historic New England chapel. If you are familiar with Old Saybrook, I am certain you know this church. Lush hydrangea wreaths lined the aisle and wild arrangements in rustic baskets flanked the couple; a gorgeous juxtaposition against the neutral space. A classic string trio via Millennium Music accompanied and as always, the music was flawless. All of the couple's stationery was designed by our Miss Talia of Sixpence For Your Shoe.

It was exceptionally important to Tyler that his grandfather in Tennessee be present for his marriage to Amie, despite his inability to travel. Thanks to modern technology, aka Phil of IDo Stream, he was able to see the couple wed real time via a live webcast. I read after the fact that his grandfather had the best seat in the house, and I was positively thrilled we were able to make it happen. So touching!

We love events at the Guilford Yacht Club. Jordan Caterers always does a wonderful job and it's a great space to make your own. Upon their arrival, guests were greeted by eclectic and fun escort cards standing proudly on twigs (from my backyard!), which in turn were planted in seriously cool rustic trays filled with moss and garnished by orchids.

Tables were dressed with chocolate pintuck linens and ivory napkins, which were secured just so with rings that coordinated with the menus of table numbers Talia designed. The flowers, though, oh the flowers, transformed the space and truly made our vision come to life. Exceptionally high arrangements of curly willow with roses and orchids woven throughout and from which votives were suspended from, were grounded by crab apples at the base; providing for continuous visual interest. Low arrangements in rustic tin containers featured a mix of moss, hydrangea, berries roses and orchids. Candles flickered softly on the tables, in the windows . . . I loved hearing all the guests "ooh" and "ahh" as they walked in to the glowing space.

In lieu of a cake, Amie and Tyler opted for a super sweet variety of cupcakes from their favorite local bakery Crumbs. There were sooo many yummy flavors and the guests gobbled them right up.

Big City Swing rocked the night with a 10 piece band that was out of this world. The highlight was a ridiculous guitar solo. Most definitely recommend.

Amie and Tyler, we truly enjoyed every moment of our collaboration together. Words cannot express the happiness I saw in your eyes at the first moment you saw one another, at the church when you pledged yourselves to each other, and when you entered into the spectacular club surrounded by family and friends. We wish you all the happiness there is and a wonderful life together.

Christine and Matthew

Christine, Christine! Tiny as a bird, and quick as a flash, yet nothing this girl does is small. Christine contacted me when she was in search of a planner and I could not be more ecstatic to hear from her as we go way back to my very old public accounting days. Our Type A brains quickly meshed once again as we sat in my studio late last summer as I was brought up to speed on where she was in her planning process.

Upon searching for a venue, Christine was a little stumped to find in the greater Hartford area a metro-esque reception site that reminded her of the locations she loved in the various cities in which she had lived and/or traveled. Upon having dinner at her favorite local restaurant, Trumbull Kitchen, she mused it was the perfect spot and lo and behold they were all for it. With a downtown feel, lots of white flowers, icy crystals and an enormous dress and cake to boot, we knew her day would be nothing but spectacular and I am certain you will agree.

All the gorgeous photos were taken by ever so witty Leslie Dumke and her sidekick Michelle Chappel.

On Sunday, December 13, 2009, Christine and her maids began their preps at the recently renovated Hilton Hartford. Hair and make-up were provided by Ashley of Beauty Entourage and Candice of Salon Naomi, respectively. The crew then headed on over to the Old State House to to formally dress. Christine donned Ines Di Santo "Aria," which she purchased at Bridal Reflections. With her hair in a massive side bun, our bride was a modern Marie Antoinette for certain!

Diane Gaudett of Custom Floral Designs provided the florals and without a doubt nailed the look Christine was going for with her tightly packed white rose bouquets.

Leslie, Michelle and I set up Christine and Matthew's first sighting on the second floor. The smile on Matthew's face says it all!

The bridal party was indeed exceptionally glam for this event. The girls wore Saison Blanche style # SB2125, while the gents sported classic tuxes. Love the tuxes, classic is absolutely the way to go!

The Old State House was decorated for Christmas and was perfectly serene and lovely, just as it was.

Christine and Matthew were married in the late afternoon by a touching ceremony bridging both their Christian and Jewish faiths. Christine fell in love with idea of walking down the aisle to modern music and had it specifically transcribed by a group in California for The Wildwood Groups, who executed it beautifully. The bridal party processed to “Knockin on Heaven's Door” by Guns N' Roses, and she was escorted by her father to "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton.

Following the ceremony, everyone headed on over to Trumbull Kitchen to celebrate. The rainy and blistery day only added the glamour of the location and the hustle and bustle. Diane did an unbelievably gorgeous job with massive arrangements on the bar, contrasted by smaller arrangements on the tables lining the walls and booths and larger cylinders on the free standing tables, all hydrangea and roses decked out with crystal branches, snow and hanging crystals; a sophisticated and posh city winter wonderland.

Each place setting was complete with a place card, folded napkin, menu and Godiva truffle favor.

Trumbull Kitchen is known for its cuisine and this wedding surely did not disapoint. Christine and Matthew designed a 4 course tasting menu to reflect their favorite dishes from around the world. First course "Japan" featured sushi, second course "France" offered beef wellington, duck and coq au vin," third course "Italy" various pastas and fourth course "America" served meat loaf, sweet potato fries and fish tacos. YUM!!!!

Jon Assunto of A & B Entertainment did a fantastic job of mixing old, new and holiday music alike. The dance floor was packed.

Last, but surely not least, the icing on the cake for this grand event was without a doubt the cake itself! A nine layer, red velvet confectionary dream by Kelly Sweet Rewards.

We are seeking entries from Southern New England couples who have overcome obstacles, suffered hardships, and faced incredible challenges, yet, find a way to give back to the community and the world. Upon the personal recommendation of one of our delightful June 2010 brides, Melissa and Evan contacted us in July as they were finalizing their vendors for their August 2009 wedding. With finance and entertainment backgrounds, their ideal mix of flair and attention to detail transpired into visions of a vintage garden setting, an impressionable menu and soft specialty lighting to transform their venue’s ballroom. Upon hearing their ideas for their event, we were more than thrilled to make it happen and honored to be specifically chosen for their day.

Saturday, August 29, 2009 began bright and early for Melissa and her ladies in waiting. After hair at the Richard Scott Salon in Mount Kisco, NY, they gathered at Melissa’s parents home for make-up by a Laura Mercier artist from Bergorfs. Melissa wore a gorgeous Amsale gown, which you may recognize as the featured dress in this year’s smash hit, The Hangover, which served as the inspiration for her stationery suite. Darling J. Crew peeps were the cherry on top.

The ceremony and reception took place at Temple Shaaray Tefila of Bedford Corners, New York, an exceptionally regal exterior amidst beautiful gardens, which served as the ideal location for the couple’s first sighting.

I adore first sightings. Almost all of our couples have done them this year. The anticipation takes my breath away and the first private and un-obscured moments captured are priceless.

The maids wore eggplant dresses by Amsale in various styles, while the men wore their own black suits and yellow ties. The bridal party primarily consisted of family and life-long friends, and the history and geniality of them together was apparent.

Marcy of Dragonfly Event, who also assisted me that day, did an incredible job creating a yellow and purple vintage garden accompaniment. The bridal party arrangements were huge, beautiful and a gorgeous juxtaposition against the purples of the maids dresses.

Following, it was time for Melissa to put on her veil and for the signing of the ketubah, then to be removed by Evan.

The ceremony took place inside the chapel. Jewish ceremonies to me are particularly touching, especially when the bride circles the groom. The simple chuppah was decorated with green garland and the pews were adorned with hydrangea. Melissa and Evan chose modern music for their procession, including "Here Comes the Sun" and "The Luckiest."

Followed by a grand scale cocktail hour! It was chock fully of yummies including a grilled quesadilia station, sliders station complete with mac n' cheese and a pasta station. Jean-Jacques' Culinary Creations caterered the event and did a bang up job.

Cocktail hour was held in the magestic gardens of the venue, decorated with gothic style lanterns, while inside guests were able to pluck their cards surrounding Marcy's lovely urn arrangement from the first ballroom.

The main ballroom was decorated classically with ivory linens and a variety of centerpieces. Marcy always brings in extra little touches and her incorporation of fruit and eclectic containers added a particular interest. Amiant uplighting and ceiling wash provided by Shindig gave the room a warm rosy glow and really completed the look. We love lighting!

Music was provided by "Encore Band" of Hank Lane Music and they did not dissapoint. It was one rockin' party and the hora definitely got it off to a great start.

Melissa and Evan, it was a wonderful experience planning your whirlwind wedding! Witnessing the happiness in your faces as you wed your true love and then celebrated with family and friends is what makes my job so worthwhile. I eagerly await catching up with you both at Victoria and Jack's wedding this June.

Marnie and David

We first spoke with Marnie and David in a phone consultation just 4 short months before their wedding. With so much planned and detailed, but still so many things to arrange, they sought out a wedding planner to ensure their long distance, cross country planning was being taken care of locally. From that initial call, we couldn't have been more excited to work with Marnie and David. You could feel the love and the warmth coming right through the phone. They are down to earth, real people, who wanted a wedding which would truly reflect their love for each other, their artistic style, their whimsically inspired details and their desire to have their wedding be a celebration of bringing family and close friends together.

When I met the happy couple for the very first time on the eve of their wedding at the ceremony rehearsal, it was like we had known each other forever. Marnie was glowing, just so happy this weekend had finally arrived. David was quite the busy bee that day. He and his groomsmen had spent the afternoon decorating the trees, hanging string lights and lanterns and curtains in the gardens. David does this sort of work for a living, so there was no way he would forgo these pretties which would make Marnie so happy for his own wedding!

On the morning of the wedding, Marnie and her lovely ladies all head out to the Steve Mancini Salon to have their hair and make-up done. They all looked beautiful and were able to relax sip mimosas and have girl time before the wedding festivities began.

Afterward, the girls made their way to the Burr Homestead to get their dresses and final accessories on. The Burr was the perfect venue for Marnie and David. It is cute and quaint, shabby and chic, well loved and worn in and the gardens are beautiful. Everything about it fit their styles.

Marnie and her maids left the Sixpence Staff with about 25 boxes of various items for set ups. Marnie was a DIY Diva, and fortunately very organized, as we were able to quickly move about the space, everything going in just the right spots. When Marnie made her way down the stairs, she was overcome with emotion. From a planner's perspective, it doesn't get much better than this.

Marnie's attention to detail did not go unnoticed by her friends and her family. And luckily for us, not by her photographer either! Southern California based Marlin Munoz and his super sweet wife, Marlene, did an incredible job capturing Marnie and David's wedding and we credit him for all of the stunning images in this blog post!

Marnie and David were married under a beautiful sprawling tree, with draped fabric backdrop and a twinkling light canopy. The ceremony was joint officiated by a dear friend of the couple and Local Justice of the Peace Amy Bien.

The details were so personalized throughout the day. Marnie gave each bridesmaid a pashmina with a ribbon tie and antiqued key, symbolizing the key to her heart, the key to their friendship. An additional basket were set out during the pre ceremony mingling for guests to warm their chilled shoulders too! During cocktail hour, guests wrote words of advice and love notes which hung in the trees and blew in the breeze.

It is clear how much Marnie and David loved their bridal party, the friendships were very tight, they were such a great group to be around for the day!

The details continued into the reception. The touches of nature and butterflies played off their shabby chic and rustic, enchanted garden theme. Guests found their table assignments in a mini tree forest, each escort card was delicately wound twine, with a paper "leaf" and a butterfly accent. Favors were individually wrapped spiced apple doughnut holes and cinnamon sticks, perfect for the fall wedding! The cake by Everything Lulu was stunning. A shimmering three tiered confection with an iced coating and silver beading stood beautifully in the corner. Of course, I can't help but try all of our client's cakes, it was scrumptious too!

As we gathered guests into the Sunroom of the Homestead, Marnie and David waited for their grand entrance. Dan and Sean, the DJs from DJ NYC announced the newlyweds into the room to incredible fan fare. They shared a first dance, as if time stopped and they were the only ones there. It was magical.

Following the first dance, all guests made their way to the various dining rooms before we began the station style dinner provided by Cranberries Catering They put on an fantastic display. The menu was full of fall harvest style appeal with touches of home style comfort foods. Guests loved it all!

While the party continued inside, Marlin took Marnie and David outside to have a few portraits under the string light chandelier under which they were married. I just love these photos!

At the end of the evening, after the final dance was danced, the last toast was applauded, and the celebration was coming to closure, all of the guests gathered outside to cheer on the couple in a sparkler send-off. It was magical. Just like the entire day and evening.

Marnie and David, we were honored to be a part of your journey to the aisle, to see your wedding unfold and to share your joy as you were married. We wish you years of continued love and happiness, the same love and happiness you both glowed with all day long on the day of your October nuptials.

This post has been a long time coming for our fabulous clients Marjan and Matthew who wedded back in May at the stunning waterfront Eolia Mansion. We posted their "New England Clambake" welcome bbq earlier in the season and now we are finally ready to share all of the glorious details from their wedding day. We are so excited to finally blog this wedding, as it is also a featured "Love Story" in the 2010 issue of La Bella Bride Magazine!

We pulled together an amazing team of vendors to accomplish the complete design and event production. With this team we were able to give the coin phrased couple "M&M" the wedding they have always envisioned.

I want to send a huge thank you to Becker for all of the incredible wedding and BBQ images. From the first moments of our initial consultation with Becker, we knew he was the one who would capture M&M's digital memories. In addition to having Becker photograph the wedding, Wes Jones was on board to provide both digital and Super 8 Film.

To step back a minute, I wanted to share an an excerpt I posted as part of their initial blog entry for their BBQ recap:

The last weekend in May, the Sixpence team started the wedding season with a bang! I am not quite sure how to adequately explain how wonderful Marjan and Matthew are, and how thrilled we were to hold such a special part of their planning journey and wedding weekend. They are the type of people that draw others to them, people who push you to be better yourself and people who make you feel genuinely cared for, whenever you are around them.

Marjan's smile and laughter are infectious, Matthew's inquisitive nature was a breath of fresh air and made you stop and wonder too. Their love of all things mid-century modern, Vienna Succession design, and a desire to incorporate their families heritages, all in conjunction with throwing an incredible wedding that would delight their guests and leave them with with unforgettable memories of a fun time shared by family and friends was a wedding planner's dream. They pushed us to be more creative and more imaginative, to truly design the finest of details with the big picture in mind, and to ensure their vision took shape, even when it may have been hard to visualize. Marjan and Matthew are the type of clients who remind us that doing our jobs are living our career dreams.

Onto the details of M&M's wedding day!

The day started with Marjan and her ladies beautifying at the Red Door Salon at the Mystic Marriott for their hair appointments and the artist DD nickel providing the flawless Make-Up. One of the amazing things about our job is that you get to glimpse into the lives of couples and families with little and special details you may otherwise never know. Take the below image of Matthew for example. Marjan told Becker and I all about how Matthew makes this adorable monkey face when putting the finishing touches on his hair. How great is it that this image is now forever captured on one of the most memorable days of their lives? I absolutely love it! And on the right, I pin Marjan's totally funky and fun veil on right before the soon to be marrieds have a pre-ceremony "first sighting"!

Matthew donned his own tux, by Hugo Boss, and Marjan dazzled in a stunning and structured Carolina Herrera purchased from the lovely Alison at the The Plumed Serpent Bridal in Westport, CT. Marjan had been eying this dress from the very beginning, I am so happy for her that she not only found it, but glowed in it on her wedding day. And of course, for a bride with both super chic style and a totally practical side, these sweet kitten heels to polish off her look.

While Marjan and Matthew were getting ready, we readied the grounds for the guests' arrival. The ceremony was to take place on the sprawling lawn behind the mansion. You can't ask for a better view, not to mention better weather! The mansion isn't too shabby either!

Look at the excitement on Marjan's face as she approached Matthew for their first sighting. The two of them were in awe of each other, the images that Becker got during this time are incredible.

The kids in this wedding were absolutely adorable. So much spunk and personality in those little bodies! The little girls wore these cutesy numbers from Etsy Seller, Sweet Plume who we have featured before in our blog. They carried fairy wants to polish off the look. The little boys went with a bit of spunk with their black suspenders and silver bow ties. We matched their bouts to the girls.

Marjan and Matthew were married in a combined Iranian and Hebrew ceremony, jointly officiated by a local Mystic Justice of the Peace, and Matthew's father David. It was so incredible to witness all of the different Iranian aspects Marjan incorporated with the help of her mother and her aunts co-mingled with the traditional Jewish elements. Guests were given the opportunity to participate in the ceremony, as all females were welcomed to sprinkle sugar over the couple's heads. Smashing Cards provided the beautiful programs for the ceremony, which incorporated Marjan and Matthew's design sense as well as detailed explanation of the ceremony components.

Following the ceremony, guests were greeted by the totally fabu staff from A Thyme To Cook with passed wine and champagne, as they made their way into the gardens and pergola area for cocktail hour. During this time, we ensured that the finishing touches were all in place inside the mansion. It was important to Marjan and Matthew that the colors were bold and vibrant, all tying into Marjan's Iranian heritage with the various shades of purples, oranges and pops of hot pink. All of the stunning florals were created (almost all of them done on site), by Tony and Kat at Datura, A Modern Garden . We couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. The flowers were everything Marjan and Matthew wanted.

Surrounding the trio of tall pillars with birds of paradise and floating candles, the escort cards were fanned in a large circle. The different color cards indicated which room guests were seated in, and the little pictures of vintage cameras - an interest of Matthew's indicated the exact table. The calligraphy was done by Debi at Blooming Quill .

The guest tables featured eggplant lamour linens, custom created runners in a bold black and white pattern, and monocromatic floral arrangements which differed by room.

After dinner, we brought guests into the tented patio area where The Rhythm Shop was ready to go. Marjan and Matthew were introduced to "Hot for Teacher" a surprise to Matthew from Marjan in honor of Matthew's profession as a Professor. They followed with a beautifully choreographed first dance. Family and friends came forward to toast the couple with a bit of moving, serious, light hearted, funny and loving words. Before you know it, the dancing started and it was intense! We love this band, and so did the crowd! In the background, the lighting from Big Wave Events created nice ambiance. Inside the mansion was a natural light amber glow, and the tent and lounge space had a deep purple color.

For guests wishing to rest their tired feet, the lounge area, adjacent to the patio tent was the perfect place to do so. Marjan's brother gave Marjan and Matthew a Hookah as their wedding gift, which was used with passion fruit tobacco during the reception. It gave off a nice and sweet smell. In addition to the lounge space, guests also enjoyed the photobooth from Photobooth Planet It was a total riot to see all of the guests with the fun mustaches, boas, oversized sunglasses and more! A Thyme to Cook displayed a variety of sweets for dessert along with slices of wedding cake provided by Toria Dolce. An espresso bar was well received on a slightly chilly May evening.

This past weekend while driving back from a client meeting Talia and I unexpectedly stumbled upon the adorable Sabrina Style Boutique in Sandy Hook. In the window we saw not only a fun, flirty number, but also a gorgeous tiered trumped skirt wedding gown. Quick as a flash we pulled in and once inside were instantly charmed with what we found!

Sabrina Style, with its vintage tin ceiling and modern regency lighting fixtures, is a delightful little jewel featuring Mon Cheri and La Sposa bridal gowns, as well as the WTOO line for maids. We met the owner, her husband and pup, who were super sweet and mentioned that they have an in house seamstress as well.

In addition to wedding attire, Sabrina Style also carries special event and cocktail attire, tuxes, as well as TOMS shoes and a mix of accessories. Never one to say no to shopping, Talia walked out with a swingy little dress and me the most perfect fitted black blazer. Prices are reasonable too.

We can't wait to share the details of Marnie and David's wedding with you, but for today, I leave a teaser picture from the super talented Marlin Munoz and Marnie's review of our services.

Marnie's Review:

First of all, I cannot begin to stress how important it is to have a day of coordinator. DIY bride, local, destination, small wedding, big wedding – you’ll be so glad that you did. I had phone interviews with several local wedding event planners; Talia and Lindsay got my wedding, asked the right questions, were fun, professional and affordable. In fact, in planning from afar, Talia’s vendor help may have saved me a few dollars. ... I am having trouble finding the words to describe how grateful and lucky we were to have them.

Talia was my point person and she was always available for me. Shortly after signing the contract, I ran into vendor problems. Talia quickly got me proposals and assured me that it would all work out. Guess what? It did. I was DIY bride and bridal blogaholic with all of these crazy projects “organized” in 18 boxes to be set up at historic venue that doesn’t have tons of weddings and an extremely limited window for set up the day of the wedding. I don’t know how Talia organized and put together every piece of the puzzle but she did it with such grace. Whatever needed to happen, she made it happen. Like a magician. Things would appear from nowhere. I’d forget to do something and it was already done. She came up with a great time line and worked so well with the other vendors. No one was late or out of place.

There was traffic so the reception started pretty late and somehow we stayed on schedule. However that happened, Talia is responsible for allowing us to be in the moment and enjoy the day. From the moment she hugged me on the way into the venue, I never had a care in the world. It was perfect and that is the way I will always remember it (even though I’m sure it was crazy hectic). More important than the timing, the vendors, the tons of calls and emails we exchanged two months prior to the day to the email I received at 2am the night before the wedding was Talia’s personality. She was so warm and welcoming to me, my family and guests. I walked down the aisle alone (it was a pretty long walk too :) Before I took off, I could feel my heel was stuck in my dress. She fixed that too.

There’s more so much more to Sixpence and how hard they worked to make everything look effortless. When I saw her assistants arranging my escort cards while waiting on the stairs alone as the bridal party was walking outside, a calm came over me. There were all my nutty projects and they looked so cute! I have a million moments that I could recount but the indelible impression I am left with is still in awe.

Talia, and the entire Sixpence staff is a-mazing. They were worth every penny.

Modern Trousseau at Bridal Market

I was so excited to receive an email from our dear chums at Modern Trousseau containing images of their new collection released this week at Bridal Market. We have had many past brides wear Callie's and David's Collections purchased through boutiques like The White Dress by the Shore, as well as have a few brides working directly with them to create incredibly glamorous custom gowns for next year. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, please do enjoy a few samples of their luscious frocks. What I love most is how utterly versatile so many seem. I could easily see them worn on the beach in the summer, a vineyard in the fall or at an old inn in the winter. The attention to detail on these gowns is incredible, especially the backs, which to me is so important. They look so light, so effortless, so lovely and easy to wear, I know you will eat them up as I did! Yum!

Liz and Garry wed on one of the most beautiful September days you could imagine. We were so thrilled to work with them in designing the details of their wedding and coordinating all of their wedding stationary.

Special thanks to Alissa Dinneen for all of these gorgeous pictures!

Liz came to be with a love of dragonflies and a desire for a blue and green invitation and wedding stationary suite. Formality with a touch of whimsy, sophisticated with a light and fun flair. I love the way everything came together. We couldn't have been more thrilled to work with Liz and Garry and are so happy for them that everything turned out beautifully!

Flowers by Danielle did an incredible job incorporating the colors and carrying the overall vision, from the bouquets, to the ceremony arrangements, to the reception entrance table with wheat grass display and then onto the centerpieces.

A girl after our own heart, Liz had not one but two pairs of gorgeous designer shoes to rock her wedding. A more traditional look with ivory Jimmy Choo's for the ceremony, were later swapped out for a totally fabu pair of Christain Louboutin's in brilliant blue for the reception. le sigh. Both looked equally stunning against her Modern Trousseau gown, purchased at one of fav boutiques, The White Dress by the Shore .

Liz and Garry were married at the Holy Infant Church in Orange with the reception following at the Quinnipiak Club in New Haven. Their beautiful wedding cake was provided by Sugarbelle Cakes .

When we first met Cindy and her lovely mother Marie last year, one thing was for sure, this wedding celebration was going to be quite the party and a large one at that! Cindy and Jared's wedding ceremony would be personalized and sentimental, held in Cindy's childhood Church and the reception would bring a fantastic band, a lively DJ for the breaks, timeless and classic photography, cinematic videography and drool-worthy florals. Their friends and family brought the party and the day turned out exactly as they had both always envisioned.

I arrived to start the day at Cindy's parent's home where the girls were all enjoying themselves. Hair and Make-up artists from two of the state's most sought after salons were helping to further beautify the already beautiful group of ladies! Thanks to Liz and Janice of Naomi Martinez Salon and Amy of Dana Bartone Salon .

Cindy wore a stunner of a gown by Amy Michelson, purchased at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City. It was so appropriately titled "Grace" as Cindy it the epitomy of elegance, style, and grace. Cindy's smile and warmth can light up a room. To complete the look, these hot-to-trot Stuart Weitzman's matched her painted toes perfectly!

With a color palette selected early on, of various pinks - hot please! and greens, it was only natural that Cindy, with her meticulous taste would choose to set the stage from the onset, sending invitations in her beautiful wedding colors. All of her stationary was designed by Christina of Paperzest .

After my stop in at the house, I arrived at St. Pius X Church in Fairfield to prepare for the ceremony. The girls carried boquets of bright pink roses, green hypericum berries, and green cymbidium orchids with dark pink spotted throats. The guys donned matching cymbidium orchids of the miniature variety. The pews were dressed in light pink Gerber Daisies, a large statement arrangement of hot pink lilies were on the Altar. The flowers were provided by Elegant Effects Floral. We love working with Peter and Chris. They know how to go large and do it right! As the ceremony ended, guests were given bells to ring and ribbon wands to wave in honor of the newlyweds as Cindy and Jared exited the Church all smiles!

I just had to share this one picture of Cindy with her maids as they all looked fantastic in their Coren Moore black dresses and bright pink sashes.

While I spent the first half of the day with Cindy and then Cindy and Jared, Lindsay and our assistant Rachel were over at The Waterview ensuring the reception details came to life. Guests were greeted at the door to this beautiful entrance arrangement of varied height pillars, floating candles and bright florals, grounded with moss and river stones.

Upon entering the ballroom space, towering height arrangements, all a bit different delighted guests mixed with various low arrangements of complimentary styles. Ribbon textured Celadon linens complimented the color scheme to a 'T". Pillars of water with floating candles and table numbers and menus by Paperzest completed the look. As the sun set, the room glowed!

The intros and first dance were not without added excitement. Cindy and Jared knew there crowd - this is one of the most important identifiers to a successful wedding and they were spot on. It was no surprise that the introductions of the parents, bridal party and the newlyweds were a roaring time led under the direction of one of our most highly recommended DJs, Rob from Standing Ovations DJ . He just "gets" it. Each couple had a song selected by Cindy and Jared and each performed an act as they made their grand entrance.

Following the intros, Cindy and Jared shared their first dance, which at first was as expected, a loving couple, a slow and moving song, a teary eyed crowd looked on, then suddenly, they turned it up a notch and finished with a coreographed number to various upbeat songs that had guests on their feet cheering. They were such sports, everyone loved it.

The best man, Jared's brother, Jamie and the maid of honor, Jared's sister, Emily both toasted the couple and Cindy's father gave a welcome that turned into a music video dance act which was truly hilarious. It was so clear how much Cindy's father Jim loves his daughter.

As the night wore on, Guests of all ages danced the night away to tunes played by Heartbeat Dance Band . Barbara is fantastic to work with and her band rocked.

Cindy and Jared also delighted guests with a photobooth from Photobooth Planet which was another huge hit!

In addition to the vendors listed above, Cindy and Jared's cinematographer is one of the best of the best. We can not wait to see what he has produced for them, Wales Wedding

Cindy and Jared, it was such a pleasure working with you and your families to plan your beautiful wedding. You are both wonderful and so much fun. Your wedding was a true testament to your love for each other, your happiness together and the high spirits of all of your friends and family. May they surround you with as much happiness in years to come as they did on your memorable August wedding day.

When we first met with Jen and Charlie last January, their vision was clear: a monochromatic floral palette and statement worthy flowers polished with a soft and rosy glow. Over the past year we became close as we searched for the right florist to bring the look to fruition as well as the perfect blush pintuck linen. Guests gasped with delight as they entered the ballroom, and continued their excitement as they danced the night away. Jen and Charlie definitely got their wish and we were absolutely ecstatic to execute their dream from start to finish.

I started my day checking in with Jen and her ladies as they were prepped by Liz and Candice of Naomi’s Salon and Spa. They all looked incredibly glamorous, and incredibly calm as they brunched and got all done up.

Jen wore a gorgeous Jim Hjelm gown, purchased at Mariella Creations, with a fabulous broach detail on the back, juxtaposed by hot pink shoes! Her ladies in waiting looked equally lovely in clean-lined yet dramatic floor length black Bill Levkoff dresses. Jen carried a bull’s eye style bouquet of watermelon colored roses, callas, stephanotis and hydrangea while the girls arrangements of hot pink and watermelon colored roses, stock and and green hydragea. Carey of Stems (who Talia and I were reacquainted with at the Newport LaBella Bride showcase) provided the incredible flowers and was an absolute pleasure to work with.

Charlie and his groomsmen took a few minutes for formals before the ceremony. They sported tuxes from Formals by Antonio and were quite the animated crew!

Jen and Charlie were married in the late afternoon on Saturday, August 8th at the Ethel Walker Chapel. They wanted to bridge both their Protestant and Jewish faiths by being married under a softly draped Chuppah, within which hung a prayer shawl from Charlie’s family. The pews were decorated with really fun hot pink carnation wreaths, adding just the right about of splash of color to the otherwise neutral space. Jen walked down the aisle with both her father and step-father, which was incredibly touching to witness. Millennium Music accompanied the ceremony and as always, the music was beautiful and timing flawless.

Cocktail hour followed at the Hartford Marriott Downtown, in the expansive art deco style foyer. Guests were greeted by a large table with a myriad of different same flower arrangements such as callas, hydrangea, and Bells of Ireland.

The ballroom was completely transformed with a mix of high and low centerpieces, uplighting, ceiling wash and gobo. Tables were dressed with blush pintucks from Dove Linen, off-set by ivory napkins. Tall & low centerpieces were composed of hydrangea, Bells of Ireland and callas and really brought the space to life.

DJ Jon March of PowerStation did an awesome job with the lighting as well as keeping the dance floor packed both in between courses and after dinner.

The cake was from the venerable Modern Pastry Shop and had very interesting detail, which played off of the couple's invite.

Last but not least, an enormous and extensive candy bar featuring every single kind of pink candy you could ever think of bid guests a sweet good night. Jen and Charlie were thrifty indeed and picked it all up the day after Valentine's.

Jen and Charlie, it was wonderful getting to know you both this year. Your wedding was a true success and we loved every second of working together. We wish you the best in your married life.

The rain pittered and pattered on and off on Kara and Andrew's June wedding day. You would never know from the smiles, the laughter, the love, and friendship, that surrounded this couple and their fantastic wedding!

When I first met Kara, back in January, she had so many ideas and so many fun details to incorporate into their wedding day. She wanted to ensure that it all came to life, and reflected their personalities, while looking cohesive, tasteful and fresh. We loved it all and the crisp and neutral palette of the Guilford Yacht Club couldn't have been a better place to see it happen!

Kara and the girls started their day at the Chameleon Salon in New Haven for their hair and make-up. I met up with them back at the Omni Hotel, just as the beautiful bouquets were being delivered by Elisabeth from Studio Blush Floral and Kara was stepping into her stunning lace gown by Vineyard. The girls wore Kelly Green Sophia dresses from J. Crew.

We found a great spot outside of the second floor ballroom for some inside formal pictures and they came out so cool.

I made my way over to the First Congregational Church in Guilford for the ceremony, greeted Andrew and the groomsmen and assisted with handing our programs. All of Kara and Andrew's wedding day stationary was designed by Ashley at Smashing Cards and printed, cut and assembled by Sixpence.

The ceremony ended with a dramatic kiss, clearly these two were thrilled to be married and guests began their exit towards the Guilford Yacht Club for the reception!

The original plan of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the lawn didn't quite work out, but it didn't stop a few from playing a fun round of bocce. The rain let up, the sun almost popped out, and Vicki was able to capture some stunning moments of the newlyweds.

Inside, while guests enjoyed the cocktail hour upstairs, the reception space lay waiting. Everything came together exactly as expected. The steel gray pintuck linens, the rich cobalt blue napkins, the bright green touches in the centerpieces all looked fantastic together. We finished off the table decor with stationary items - menus and table numbers. In addition, Marissa and her staff from Jordan Caterers are always excellent to work with and this day was no different! Guests raved of the food and the service.

Powerstation Events offered the entertainment, with a string duo for the cocktail hour and Jon for the evening DJ. We had some fun introductions of the bridal party, then Kara and Andrew were introduced and shared their first dance as husband and wife to Crazy Love, by Van Morrison. One of my all time favs!

Later in the evening, Kara and Andrew cut their beautiful cake, provided by J.Cakes and gave warm and touching thank yous to their families for making such an incredible wedding possible. They followed this with a bouquet toss to all the single ladies from the second floor balcony and an evening of fun and dancing!

We couldn't end the evening without a candy bar in wedding colored goodies, and handmade chocolates from Kara's aunt at Harbor Sweets. Yum! The candy bar was a major hit!

Kara and Andrew, we had so much fun working with you to make your wedding day so special. We wish you lots of love and happiness in the years to come.

Shelby and Ryan

Friday, June 12th at Westover we knew
And of course, the school colors of yellow and blue.

I thought it was only appropriate to start of this blog post about my sister in law’s wedding with a piece of my matron of honor speech. It was very different experience, indeed, planning a wedding for a family member; an event in which I was more than personally vested - an emotional involvement that can only be described as similar to the way I felt about my own wedding.

Even before they were engaged, it was always Shelby’s dream to be married at Westover School in Middlebury, Connecticut, where her blood runs deep. My father in law has worked there for over 25 years, she attended school herself, and since college has returned to hold a number of positions and now resides on campus. Ryan and Shelby envisioned a late spring country wedding with a bit of panache, and we carried the yellow and blue theme throughout. With an exceptionally large guest list in a rambling, unique space we had to be creative, but the end result was awesome and everyone is still raving about what an incredible day it was.

Early morning preps began in Shelby’s dorm apartment by the ever so fabulous Naomi Martinez and Angela from Naomi’s Studio & Salon of West Hartford.

Shelby donned a Bellisima "Chloe" lace dress with a custom band and skirt alteration from Mariella Creations. As luck would have it, we are similar in size and thus, she she also wore my Fenaroli veil and Vera Wang for Stuart Weitzman shoes (Ebay, baby!) and carried my beaded clutch as her something borrowed and her grandmother’s necklace as her something old.

We went downstairs into one of the libraries for her to put on her dress, and during this time Ryan sent over a gorgeous diamond and sapphire bracelet. Jane of Just For You provided the bridal party and ceremony flowers. Shelby carried a beefy calla bouquet with blue delphinium.

Then it was time for bridal party photos outside. The maids wore metallic navy dresses from Jim Hjelm Occasions and Nine West shoes, along with jewelry and yellow clutches Shelby gave to us as gifts. We carried yellow calla bouquets.
Flower girl Hannah in a dress from Target (yes, target!), customized with a sash from the maids extra fabric and my little chap Landon, head to toe in Janie and Jack (love that store).

The guys wore custom navy suits from Antonio’s in Waterbury and looked dapper, indeed. Ryan’s father was his best man, so touching. My husband (the shorty) and his two brothers are on the left of the photo.

The ceremony took place at Saint John of the Cross, just a few steps from Westover. The church was decorated with two yellow glad arrangements and the pews were tied with lanterns, a nod to Westover’s signature symbol.

With a kiss and lots of applause they were married at last! Guests walked from the church across the street to Westover's Senior Garden where Emily’s Catering put on the most fantastic spread, and were waiting with glasses of wine. The first thing guests saw was the two Adirondack chairs guest book, along with place cards along the old stone wall on a wide ribbon. All paper designed by Talia of Sixpence For Your Shoe.
Inside in the dining hall, we swapped the original ladder-back chairs for white chivari. Tables were dressed with navy linens, white folded napkins and Westover’s own Spode china. All rentals were through Durants Tents and Events. Table numbers and menus complimented the original stationary suite. The candle centerpieces were provided by a local florist. Dinner commenced with a trio of cold heirloom tomato soup, spring salad with sweet basil dressing and a miniature pancetta BLT, followed by a choice of gorgonzolla encrusted beef tenderloin with a roasted shallot merlot, herb roasted sea bass with a cherry salsa or spinach & fresh motzarella stuffed chicken breast. Desserts consisted of cupcakes from Edible Dreams, Italian cookies from Shelby’s grandmother and a gelato bar via Gelato Guiliana. We had originally planned to dance outside, but with the iffy weather, the dance floor was set up on Red Hall. Our back-up plan worked out well as it made a great statement in the space. Following dinner, Shelby and Ryan danced their first dance to “Everything" by Michael Buble. This couple had no need for dance lessons, they floated like they were on air.
Guests danced until 2am to tunes of all kinds. DJ Rob Waldron from Standing Ovations kept the dance floor packaged for 4 hours straight.

Shelby and Ryan, it has been my honor and privilege to be part of your engagement, as well as your wedding from start to finish. It was an absolute blast sharing in the anticipation and excitement of your engagement to the very last detail of your wedding. I need not wish you happines, because I know you have it.

Liz and Geoff

Liz and Geoff were married on a very warm day in June, under the beaming sun. Liz planned her wedding from out of town, and even though she was our very first 2009 client, booking early in 2008, we never actually met until her final walkthrough at the Seamen's Inne, the week of her wedding! Despite meeting for the first time, I felt like we had known each other for a very long time. Liz is warm and bubbly, sweet and caring, and an outgoing type A all around. She is the perfect compliment to Geoff who is quiet and reserved, a thinking and clearly deeply in love with Liz. I couldn't have been happier to have them as our clients.

A special thank you to Robert and Kathleen Photographers who captured Liz and Geoff's day beautifully. It was fantastic to work with both of them.

I started the day at Liz's parent's beautiful home in Rhode Island. The house was full of family, friends, the bridesmaids and the fabulous Dana Bartone. She did a beautiful job on the ladies' hair and make-up.

Kristen from Anderson's Garden had already arrived to drop off all of the flowers, which were so cool. The overall look was cream, green and blue but Liz's flowers were deep, deep red gerber daisies that just popped. There were a couple of other subtle red touches at the reception as well.

The entire bridal party met up at Liz's parent's house, including the guys and Liz and Geoff had a first look in her parent's private backyard. From there, the group took a party bus to Wilcox Park in Westerly, Rhode Island, where they let loose a bit!

Following pre-ceremony pictures (we love when our clients choose this option as they have so much time for their pictures without missing any of their party), everyone made their way over to the Seamen's Inn. It was clear that Liz put a lot of thought into all of the little details. Her father also took the "project" under his wings and really had a hand in ensuring all of the little details took shape. It was very sweet. In addition to being a beautiful day and weekend, the Mystic Boat Show was taking place, so Liz and Geoff had the beautiful backdrop of this antique vessel behind them for the ceremony. Quite fitting for a seaport wedding!

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the patio. We hung fun and funky parasols and lanterns under the tent in blue and green. And inside the details continued. From early on in the planning, Liz knew that she wanted to have a Paper Crane tribute, and on the escort table, a large Manzanita branch stood, with many a blue and green crane, and of course a little touch of red. We dressed the chairs with white covers and light blue sashes. The sashes matched the light blue organza overlays which draped the tables. Tall centerpieces of hydrangea, willow and hanging votives provided height that this ballroom commands, and the tables were polished off with individual menus and paper cranes at each setting. Liz and Geoff's place settings each had a golden crane!

Victoria from Toria Dolce provided the beautiful cake. One of her signature designs and It definitely tasted as good as it looked! I love how closely it ties into the groomsmen attire and overall color scheme of the wedding.

The reception started to introductions of the parents, the bridal party and finally Geoff and Liz. They made their way onto the dance floor and shared their first dance to "Make You Feel My Love". Guests gathered around to watch.

After dinner, guests danced the night away to the rocking tunes of the Bock and Blu Band. They played hits, classics and everything in between and had the dance floor packed. In addition, they were able to really involve both families with some classic Irish and Italian tunes.

Thank you so much for allowing us to hold such an important role for your wedding. You and your families were wonderful to be a part of. It is so clear how strong your love for each other is, we wish you years and years of continued love and happiness together.

When we first met with Michelle and Ryan, it was easy to see how much they adored one another and how magical it was for them to be married at Michelle’s parent’s home in Woodstock Valley, CT. An estate of rolling hills, barns, paddocks and gorgeous horses, the location took our breath away every time we visited. No strangers to throwing fun family bashes on the property, it was exceptionally important to Michelle that her wedding be more than just another party in her parent’s backyard. Together we worked over the last year to fully design her event from the ground up into an elegant and fresh late spring soiree.

On June 6, 2009, early morning prep began in the farmhouse kitchen. Michelle’s niece was her flower girl and was too cute! Hair and make-up was provided by Elan Salon.

Upon arriving on the estate, guests were transported via golf carts from Ron’s Golf Cart Rental to the hill overlooking the property where the ceremony was to take place. We planned a little surprise pre-ceremony social hour with fresh lemonade, mojitos and spiked punch before the ceremony began. It was delicious and so refreshing!

They were married in the late afternoon by Reverand Tom Meyer, accompanied by a string trio from Wildwood Groups. Garden Gate Florist did an gorgeous job decorating the arbor with blue & green hydrangea, white stock, blue delphinium, lemon leaf and ivy garland. The aisle was lined with shephard hooks holding glass vases with more blue hydrangea. The best decor of all, however, was the unmistakably incredible view.

With a kiss and a cheer the ceremony ended with Michelle and Ryan leaving on a getaway golf cart for some formals around the property. Michelle’s gown was 2Be, veil and accessories were from Mariella Creations. Ryan and his guys wore tuxes for Samuel’s in Vernon. The maids cornflower dresses were purchased there as well. Michelle carried a hand tied bouquet of hydrangea and stephanotis, while the girls carried bouquets and white hydrangea and greens.

Guests made their way down to the lower part of the property on foot, stopping to pluck their place cards from a bale of hay wrapped in ribbons. Cocktail hour took place in the great room as well as the pool area of Michelle’s parents home where Gourmet Galley served up such goodies as lamb lillipops, steamed vegetable dumplings with soy hoisin dipping sauce and Maryland crab cakes with chipotle rémouladeand. Michelle's father was an accomplished hunter and the great room was filled with his conquests.
Dinner followed under the crisp tent where guests feasted on grilled tenderloin of beef served with a merlot demi glaze or breast of boneless chicken rolled with spinach, shitake, and goat cheese served with a wine butter sauce. Tent and associated rentals were through Taylor Rental of Manchester. Guest tables surrounded by silver chivari chairs were adorned with navy pintuck linens and blue lamour napkins via BBJ, topped by custom menus and table numbers. High centerpieces composed of calla lilies, blue hydrangea, curly willow, light blue delphinium, white stock and assorted greens brought the eye up to the beautifully draped ceiling and hanging chandeliers.

The night was complete with both classic and modern tunes performed by Black Tie Band. The cake was provided by the bride's cousin, Carol Murdock. Wine lovers at heart, Michelle and Ryan gave each guest a bottle of their favorite wine from Ballet of Angels. Videographer David Lammey did an fantastic job capturing the day as well.

Marjan and Matthew's Welcome Bar-B-Q in Mystic

The last weekend in May, the Sixpence team started the wedding season with a bang! I am not quite sure how to adequetely explain how wonderful Marjan and Matthew are, and how thrilled we were to hold such a special part of their planning journey and wedding weekend. They are the type of people that draw others to them, people who push you to be better yourself and people who make you feel genuinely cared for, whenever you are around them.

Marjan's smile and laugther are infectous, Matthew's inquisitive nature was a breath of fresh air and made you stop and wonder too. Their love of all things mid-century modern, Vienna Succession design, and a desire to incorporate their families heritages, all in conjunction with throwing an incredible wedding that would delight their guests and leave them with with unforgettable memories of a fun time shared by family and friends was a wedding planner's dream. They pushed us to be more creative and more imaginative, to truly design the finest of details with the big picture in mind, and to ensure their vision took shape, even when it may have been hard to visualize. Marjan and Matthew are the type of clients who remind us that doing our jobs are living our career dreams.

I want to thank Becker for all of the amazing images in capturing Marjan and Matthew's wedding. We couldn't have been happier to work with a more fun and talented photographer on such a wonderful wedding.

On the eve of their wedding, Marjan and Matthew began their weekend celebration with a wedding rehearsal and clambake/bar-b-q at the The Boat Shed at Lighthouse Point in Mystic, Connecticut. Almost all of their guests travelled from out of town, and what better of a way to welcome them to the Connecticut shoreline than with a festive New England feast!

Naturally I got in on the action too as we walked through the ceremony. There were a lot of questions and many involved people, as the joining of the couple involved paying respect to both Marjan's Iranian heritage and Matthew's Jewish religion. It was quite chilly for the last weekend in May, and misting, I might add, but I will take weather like it was that night, any weekend of the year, if it means that the following day will be as picture perfect as their wedding day weather delivered!

Following the rehearsal, guests began to gather at the boat shed for the evening's festivities.

We decorated the tables in red and white checkered linens, perfect for the setting and the menu. And to dress the tables in a subtle manor, terracotta potted Marigold's, one of Marjan's special requests were placed in the center. Guests enjoyed a mix of Iranian tunes, some classic rock, and some chill Indie tunes, thanks to Rob Waldron from Standing Ovations DJ

I had to share a picture of the operation. Everything was cooked in large pots, grills and an open flame. Guests couldn't help but watch, it was really a sight to see. One of the most popular items, the mini bags of mixed shellfish. A perfect sampling of steamers, little necks, and mussels - YUM!

Not only was the occasion special b/c it was celebrating what was to come on the following day, but it was also Matthew's birthday. From early on in the planning, Marjan knew she wanted to surpise Matthew with a birthday cake, and when we went to the cake tastings (for the wedding), Matthew kept talking about how much he loved the red velvet, we had our flavor. You may recognize the similarily of Matthew's incredible birthday cake to the 1956 "Marshmallow Sofa" originally designed by George Nelson. We can't thank Audra from Let Em Eat Cake, enough for her incredible talent in designing and executing the vision. To say that Matthew, and Marjan actually, were floored, would be an understatement. Guests LOVED it too. Not only do Audra's cakes look super cool, they taste divine as well!

After the cake cutting, Marjan and Matthew's dear friend Dave took the mic to begin the Roasts, the Toasts, and the Talent Show, including a beautiful and moving song by Marjan's friend. I was a bit nervous when M&M told me that they wanted to leave the job of the emcee to their friend rather than the professionals, but not only did Dave live up to the task, he blew everyone away. His whit, his charm, and his fondness for Marjan and Matthew were very touching. As he spoke, guests couldn't help but listen and laugh.

Sadly, closing time came too soon for the lively crowd. As staff and vendors cleaned and packed for the evening, Marjan, Matthew, and their guests moved the party to the Octagon Bar at the Mystic Marriott where everyone was spending the weekend. Friday the 29th of May could not have been a more perfect start to a wonderful weekend.

We are so excited to be a part of Meghan and Charlie's wedding today, who as a matter of fact, got engaged the same day my son was born! With a ceremony at their alma mater Holy Cross and a tented reception at Wachusett Village Inn it's sure to be a great party. And . . . the sun is shining!

I was going thumbing through the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of wellwed cape and stopped in my tracks over this incredible pie display made by a bride none other than Piper, which happens to be my maiden name.

It's quite often we have weddings that feature creative dessert bars either in lieu of their wedding cake or in addition to them. Just this year alone we have had two clients mention pies, which I love. I mean, who doesn't love a warm and gushy piece of pie, especially a la mode???Perfect for an event at home! This Piper masterminded her own stacked tiers with vintage plates and martini glasses. Talk about being thrify!

I think both Martha Stew & little Jack Corner would have been proud :).
