Connecticut Wedding Planner | Reflecting on a Spectacular 2011

As we ring in the new year and toast to all the excitement, splendid couples, beautiful weddings, wonderful venues, amazing colleagues and all that 2012 has in store for us, we also take a few moments to honor an incredible 2011.

We were pushed and challenged to expand our creativity, to explore and design in new locations, and to set the bar that much higher and then some.  We, along with our clients, braved snow (at the beginning of the season and the end!), torrential rains, extreme heat, a hurricane, some of the most glorious of weather days and more.  We grew our team, yet again and broadened our talented network of vendors and colleagues, allowing our clients fetes to be that much more fabulous!  And we met amazing couples, who welcomed us into their fold, gave us the opportunity to play such intimate roles in their lives - their wedding day, and who leave us with fond memories, in the same way we hoped we were able to do for them.

Here is just a small look back at our year:

2011 La Bella Bride Magazine

Today, we were thrilled at the arrival of a box full of the 2011 La Bella Bride Magazines! Over the summer we collaborated with Jane from Just for You Weddings to recreate and expand on two client tablescapes for inclusion in this year's issue. With our designs, the gorgeous flowers from Jane, rentals from Party Rental, LTD and Wildflower Linens and picture perfect photography by Sara Zarrella, we couldn't be more pleased to see it in print!

Multiple heightened abundant blooms of hydrangea, orchids, and garden roses sitting on a variety of shapely tall and low mercury glass containers admidst jewel-accented candle holders grace a layering of aloe-colored runners and an ivory Irish Linen. Softly draped champagne chair covers, green patterned china, tinted stemware, and a hemp napkin ring, adorned with a broach detail add a natural yet glamourous accent to the overall table design.

Nautically inspired with a touch of whimpy: royal blue and white striped linen, golden yellow chargers, cranberry-splashed champagne and polka dotted accents. Varied height arrangements in rich colors atop banana-leaf-lined glass cylinders surround a large arrangement of soft sand, driftwood, and wind blown sea grasses.

2010 - An Incredible Year in Review!

2010 was an incredible year - starting with our first client's wedding the first weekend in January, and ending the year in mid-November. We had a wonderul time working with all of our clients to design their dream weddings. It was a year of growth, challenges, reflection and new friendships.

2010 was a milestone year for Sixpence For Your Shoe, representing our fifth year in the wedding business, working with some of the same amazing vendors this year, as we had when we first began. We feel honored to be among such an incredibly talented pool of wedding professionals in Southern New England.

In 2010, we were delighted to see our work featured in print at La Bella Bride Magazine and Connecticut Bride and online at Style Me Pretty, Wedding Chicks, Prepare to Wed, and Brides.com. Sixpence For Your Shoe was also recognized as a "The Knot, Best of Weddings 2010 Winner"

We are looking forward to 2011 with another year's worth of fantastic clients, beautiful weddings, and creative challenges. We hope you follow along with us in our journey! But before we celebrate 2011, we would like to toast to our 2010 clients on their marriages. See below for a recap of all of our 2010 weddings!

2011 Deserving Couple Wedding Giveaway

Sixpence For Your Shoe has teamed up with Jessica’s Country Flowers and an amazing entourage of New England Vendors to offer two deserving couples the dream wedding of a lifetime. Two teams of vendors have been assembled and we are seeking couples who are the most deserving of this amazing offer.

What makes a deserving couple most highly considered, you ask? We are seeking entries from Southern New England couples who have overcome obstacles, suffered hardships, and faced incredible challenges, yet, find a way to give back to the community and the world. Couples who see the positive in the face of adversity, who make lemons out of lemonade and who always consider the glass half full! Is this you?

To enter, head over to Jessica’s Country Flowers and fill out the contact form. In the “additional comments” section, make sure to tell our team all about you (or the friend/family member you are referring) and why you feel like you need this wedding and are most deserving.

The first talented group includes Jessica’s Country Flowers, Justin & Mary Marantz, Details Wedding & Party Planning, Stonington Paperie, Lovely Cake, and The White Dress by the Shore.

The second group of vendors participating Jessica’s Country Flowers, Steve Depino Photography, Sixpence For Your Shoe, Paper Olive, Toria Dolce Fine Desserts, The Plumed Serpent.

From the list of applications we have already received, we have narrowed the field to three couples. We are still considering applications, so do not hesitate to contact us!

Pretty in ... Purple! - Sixpence For Your Shoe in La Bella Bride Magazine

When Lindsay and I received a call from the lovely Katina at La Bella Bride Magazine to participate in a photo shoot for the 2009 issue, we were ecstatic. Ecstatic both to have our work showcased in such a highly regarded magazine, as well as ecstatic to be so well respected at what we do to even be asked.

On a cool damp morning in July, we drove up to the Winvian resort to begin the set-ups for our 9 am shoot. We choose the most incredible patio location, overlooking the rolling lawn behind the resort's country barn. The fog was still fairly heavy in the background.

We asked floral designer extraordinaire, Tony from Datura, a Modern Garden to help us create the vision. Tony and Kat, his right hand lady, GOT IT! Just see for yourself:

Sweet Sophistication - Vintage toile in a country setting, juxtaposed by a majestic garden cresent with three Moroccan-style lanterns. A rich palette of amethyst, lilac & cantaloupe are grounded to the landscape by the natural elements of chocolate brown. Lacey textures of the orchids, mimicking the pattern of the toile, adding an air of elegance to the scalloped china, gold leafed flatware and antique stemware.

A special thank you to Jocelyn Filley who took the beautiful photographs for our shoot, and Rentals Unlimited who provided our tables, chairs, underlay, napkins and napkin rings, and flatware.

The 2009 Issue of LaBella Bride Magazine is on newstands this week! Pick up your copy today as it is chock full of fabulous ideas and beautiful pictures.

Katina, thank you so much for including us!

Sixpence For Your Shoe Chosen by Style Me Pretty!

Taking bow, thank you, thank you!!

Talia and I are thrilled to announce that Sixpence For Your Shoe has been chosen to be featured in Style Me Pretty's Little Black Book of Vendors for Hartford, Connecticut. We were first rung up by Abby and Michelle back in June and are just ecstatic to *finally* have our name listed with those in the industry whom we admire most. Being considered a "Best Wedding Vendor" is such an honor for us, as we are head over heels in love with our business and everything weddings.

Style Me Pretty (could the name be any cuter??) is hands down, the best wedding blog out there. It is chock filled chic ideas and inspiration, swoonworthy featured weddings of all kinds and budgets and fabulous projects to try at home. We continuously draw up on this site for daily injections of creativity and also pass it on to our girls (and guys!) as well. It is seriously pretty is as pretty does.

Thanks so much ladies, we can't thank you enough!

Cheers!
Lindsay and Talia

Exciting News!

Lindsay and I were invited to participate in a photo shoot for the fabulous La Bella Bride Magazine which took place just this week at the gorgeous The Winvian Resort. If anyone is interested in a truly posh little get-away, check this incredible place out!

While you are going to have to wait to see the details of our shoot in the next issue, which comes out around New Years, I will say that we had an absolute blast pulling ideas together and working with the uber-talented Tony at Datura, A Modern Garden. If you are the creative type, and looking for an out-of-the-box florist, he is definitely your guy!

So stayed tuned, we will be back to share pics in December!
