2011 La Bella Bride Magazine

Today, we were thrilled at the arrival of a box full of the 2011 La Bella Bride Magazines! Over the summer we collaborated with Jane from Just for You Weddings to recreate and expand on two client tablescapes for inclusion in this year's issue. With our designs, the gorgeous flowers from Jane, rentals from Party Rental, LTD and Wildflower Linens and picture perfect photography by Sara Zarrella, we couldn't be more pleased to see it in print!

Multiple heightened abundant blooms of hydrangea, orchids, and garden roses sitting on a variety of shapely tall and low mercury glass containers admidst jewel-accented candle holders grace a layering of aloe-colored runners and an ivory Irish Linen. Softly draped champagne chair covers, green patterned china, tinted stemware, and a hemp napkin ring, adorned with a broach detail add a natural yet glamourous accent to the overall table design.

Nautically inspired with a touch of whimpy: royal blue and white striped linen, golden yellow chargers, cranberry-splashed champagne and polka dotted accents. Varied height arrangements in rich colors atop banana-leaf-lined glass cylinders surround a large arrangement of soft sand, driftwood, and wind blown sea grasses.

Piece

I was going thumbing through the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of wellwed cape and stopped in my tracks over this incredible pie display made by a bride none other than Piper, which happens to be my maiden name.

It's quite often we have weddings that feature creative dessert bars either in lieu of their wedding cake or in addition to them. Just this year alone we have had two clients mention pies, which I love. I mean, who doesn't love a warm and gushy piece of pie, especially a la mode???Perfect for an event at home! This Piper masterminded her own stacked tiers with vintage plates and martini glasses. Talk about being thrify!

I think both Martha Stew & little Jack Corner would have been proud :).

Cheers!

Flippin' for Feathers

How I love feathers, let me count thy ways!

And how I love feathers in a flower girl dress! La!

One of our increeedibly swanky-tasted brides informed us she was doing such a look for the little ones in her wedding and I was so all over it, I had to post this Etsy vendor sweetplume.

These styles and the munchkins are so cute, I could just eat 'em up.

Tal calls them Mini Bjorks. I call them fabulous. We are amped.

What say you?

Happy Friday!

Sprinkles Delivered!

It's true, everyone loves a cupcake. Fun to eat, fun to look at; the perfect proportion of cake and frosting.

So, imagine my pure glee to sample one this weekend from the fabulous cupcake delivery service Cupcakes Gourmet. We send flowers, fruit and cookies, but cupcakes??? Genius!

Cupcakes Gourmet, based in Malvern, PA, serves up a variety of different mini cakes for delivery including mouth watering flavors such as cafe au lait (which I tried), dark chocolate mint and peanut butter. You can deliver a dozen of these bad boys nationwide for $24.99 plus shipping. Tell me what person wouldn't be totally ecstatic by this box of pure happiness:

But the fun doesn't stop there! Cupcakes Gourmet also specializes in weddings and special events. Regular cupcakes are $3.50-$5.00 each and mini cupcakes are $1.50-$3.00 each, before set-up and delivery. I know the obvious idea is to use cupcakes in lieu of a wedding cake, but my favorite idea is to wrap the minis individually as favors!!!

Cheers!

New vs. Vintage Bling

Today on the radio, Gary Craig and his morning team talked about new vs. vintage/estate sale engagement rings and opened the phones for comments as to whether or not it was appropriate for a bride to be presented with a ring that was pre-owned or not designed specifically for her.
Although I knew my answer immediately, I increased the volume and anxiously awaited for them to take the calls.

In the meantime, I thought about the last 80+ weddings I have attended in the last five years either as coordinator or guest and thought futher about all the rings the brides have worn. They have really been across the board: family heirloom, designed from scratch, designed to copy a designer ring, chosen directly from the case as is, setting chosen from case or on-line, but with different stone, and some have not even worn an engagement ring at all.
A lover of all tangible items with history, my personal answer was, "Absolutely!" My sister in law, in particular, has a gorgeous vintage Harry Winston setting, and mystery behind the ring made me love it even more. And who could forget the simple engagement ring Annie Banks and Bryan MacKenzie picked out at a flea market that "was at least 100 years old" in the 1991 remake of Father of the Bride!?!

In particular, many of our brides have rings that were designed to look like estate pieces by such designers as Tacori, Ritani, and Daniel K. Although that doesn't necessarily answer the question, does it matter if it was previously owned?
When the calls came in, the answers that I heard basically said the same thing, albeit in different ways:
1) "You should happy with any ring you receive!"
2) "I have an estate piece and I love it. As long as it didn't belong to a former girlfriend or wife, it's fine."
3) "Depends on the size of the diamond within the ring."
Of course, if you do in fact choose a vintage ring there are some things to consider, such as the cut and quality of the stone, as diamonds were often cut differently back then, as well as the strength in the prongs of the setting.
And for what it's worth, even if you do have a brand spanking new ring, there is always the chance that diamond has been used in a different piece of jewelry before it ultimately came your way.
So, I pose the question to all you readers. What do you think?
Happy Wednesday!

Not your parents wedding video . . or is it?

It's safe to say weddings have come a long way from the 70s.

I think all of us at one time or another have poured over the wedding albums of the past and chuckled at the wood paneled reception halls, bell bottomed suits or tuxes and Jordan almond colored bridesmaid dresses. Heh, I think I just summed up my parent's 1975 garden wedding in one sentence.

However, one hot trend we are seeing is the resurrection of the 70s style home video, also known as Super 8.

Per Wikipedia, Supr 8 mm film, also simply called Super 8, is a motion picture film format that was developed in the 1960s and released on the market in 1965 by Eastman Kodak as an improvement of the older 8 mm home movie format, and the Cine 8 Format.

These days, although most usage of Super 8 has been replaced by more updated film formats, certain cinematographers are choosing to inject Super 8 clips into their otherwise traditional format wedding videos, or have opted to completely replace the traditional kind altogether; with the philosophy that the Super 8 video is a superior expression of art. If you are longing for a retro/romantic home wedding video (but not really), one that will remind you of the opening credits to Wonder Years, this could be the style of video of for you.

Here are some vendors in our area that offer it. All have neat examples on their respective sites:

Appreciating all things vintage, I think it's pretty cool.

Love? Hate? Let's dish!

Simply Delicioso

Just swiped this from one of my favorite upon favorite blogs http://www.absolutelybeautifulthings.blogspot.com/

I've never seen this much flower on a wedding cake before and I think it is the cutest ever. Perfect for an outdoor wedding, or even an individual table centerpiece.
